> DeepSeek, and other Chinese models, are heavily subsidised by the Chinese government.

Yes, because everything China does is against the US. That's all they think about day and night. God forbid they want to corner the global market or have a genuine business case. How dare they provide options for those who can't afford a measly $200 a month? How can we let Chinese labs publish research for free for the whole world so that they can benefit? The nerve! To think they can use soft power instead of military might! I mean, Anthropic and OpenAI are the last bastions of human kindness and charity. Right?

Right?

A failed state is a funny thing. It cannot fail indefinitely and yet it persists in a limbo.

well, according to finance bros, shovelling cash into a furnace to power a boiler to steam some eggs is considered a wild success. Economics is for normies.

Thats too much of an honest assessment. An age old playbook. I'd like the tech do actually do things that are hard for me, like taking control of the car in a high stress situation. Sub-milisecond reactions to correct for a mistake. Something, anything more useful than a fancier cruise control.

Why should they give up their nukes? I'd like a rational, logically sound reason they should give up their nuclear research and or any war-heads already developed.

Celcius is pretty intuitive actually. It takes atmospheric pressure into account, Water is pretty abundant on the surface of the planet, and life kinda depends on it. It's a remarkable substance and quite stable. I dont think theres another substance where we can see all three phases with kitchen appliances and still consume it. Equally good for bathing and drinking. I need steam to clean clothes and cook my food. Using water as a benchmark for how we measure temperature is remarkably useful.

My own frustration isn't corruption per se, a state cannot exist without it - at least not for long, but how cheap African corruption is in general. Others may require considerable resources and billions perhaps. Not here. Just a few Land Rover discoverys for key officials and a scholarship for their kids in Europe is all that is required to sell a whole state. To say nothing of a sporting organization.

It's not that simple. If he did find dark stuff, and he got caught - he will have both the state murderers and the filth on his case. That's the best case scenario assuming the state isn't on the side of the filth by which case he was cooked no matter what he did. Filth does not even have come after you. They can just send you a family portrait and you'd know the hole is deep and only one way out.

That v4 quality is available to everyone in the world for a pittance is beyond remarkable.

Dubious at best. When you remember that there are open models with performance just as good as Sonnet that cost $2.50/M - $5/M output tokens. They don't have magically cheaper energy or compute costs. Anthropic premium pricing the API is just vibes. Like Starbucks. Like Lululemon. Like Apple.

I have to strongly disagree with this one. People should strive to do hard things, solve uniquely hard problems. SWE is not hard or particularly unique.

I use a tool called context-mode. Update agent to save session summary every 100k tokens

Now we get to the nub. American anti-Chinese rhetoric. Very good.

I made no such claims. Maybe you have something to share about why we need to have a negative view of free and open models based on publicly available frontier research.
