As an aside, it would be neat if publishing services like this had a sort of 2FA, eg the package manager had a hook endpoint where it sent the details of the next requested published version. Allowing the owners to validate.

Kinda like 2FA on the deployment itself, not just 2FA on the .. A. I guess 2FD heh.

I don't find it anywhere remotely as bad. I'm not saying it's good, but jesus.. i was ready to leave anthropic lol.

Doesn't this impl that licensing was respected? I feel like it wasn't

In my local area HOAs are apparently required by the city. We manage ours, a very small HOA, and recently were in discussion about removal. If we remove the HOA, the cost for each house will likely go up significantly because there's work needed to manage a detention pond that the city requires we manage. If the HOA dissolves, they city takes it over but charges much more for the same management.

Feels really odd, no one in our area actually wants an HOA. Yet i think people are going to flip when their HOA dues are suddenly required by the city and at much steeper rates (i imagine 2-4x the cost, our dues are quite small atm).

Maybe you (or i?) missed the point - it wasn't that nobody has those machines, it was that at $40k for 4x the 256GB versions is a substantial price, and so the parent parent was suggesting that it would be compared against OpenRouter. Ie how long would it take someone to spend $40k worth of credits on OpenRouter?

I've had the same thought on self hosting for the past 2 years. Eg i could invest $10k into hardware or spend those on credits. I chose credits, because by the time i spend 10k i suspect the market will have dramatically shifted in requirements, compute, etc.

Some isolation is nice. I say some because I’m told it’s security is not to be trusted, but I still like that even a non nefarious binary has ootb boundaries on what state will persist.

> Limits though? I mean they probably don't do nothing but they aren't nearly as effective unless you pair them with a regular police presence. And even then, mixed effects. I'm pretty sure the entirety of the Chicago Loop is capped at 55 mph, but if you actually do 55 on that thing, you're gonna die.

I actually look forward to self driving taxis/etc doing the speed limit for this reason. It's going to be difficult to speed if there are always vehicles doing the speed limits in various lanes (where passing lanes don't exist, at least)

Any thoughts on what the alternative would be?

Perhaps a contribution requirement per post? Though this proposal just invites bots to actually post comments because that becomes a requirement for posting links.

Heck i used Claude when it sucked just to ask it questions. It was wrong on 50% of the questions back then but it still was easier than randomly searching for the solutions. Claude helped unblock me when i got stuck on obtuse nix errors, foreign compilation issues, etc.

These days it's magical, but it was even a huge boon when it was barely functional. Nix just had a way of leaving me super confused and stranded.

> It’s interesting to me that 9 hours of interview time is considered excessive by some people. Over my career I’ve done interviews that required plane flights, hotels, and multiple separate days on site.

I think part of the reason is that interviews have gotten more adversarial as time has gone on. Ie less respect for the interviewee, more of a power dynamic, more careless wasted time in lazy take home assignments, etc.

I wouldn't mind 9 hour interviews to 3 companies if i knew i'd land the job. It's the 1,000 companies that many people experience that gives them pause after so much disrespect through time.

That's kinda me with respect to Claude. Generally i've had no issues and just kept pluggin' along.

The first real issue where i wanted to leave was the Claudish nonsense. If not for 5.5 i'd be on OpenAI by now.

I agree with you, but i also fear it's accurate to what users an expect at home.

Is OpenAI worse at airgap/etc than Anthropic/etc or are its models worse at this rogue behavior?

Do we have special benchmarks for agentic systems going rogue in this manner? Sure it's OpenAI atm.. but it could be my grandmas PC next week. Concerning honestly.

Heck I kinda wonder if LLMs can do math as well as they can reason, “think”, etc. ie its all just probabilistic lunacy that somehow works great, so why are we so concerned about math being wrong? It could be wrong about the color of the sky, the size of a basket ball, how much oranges weigh, etc etc.

The nice thing about math is it can easily plug into a tool, making it even less of a concern.

> You become better at expressing your thoughts, but harder to understand.

This happens most though when the speaker doesn't (or care to) understand their audience.

Eg i find effective communication requires expertise in both the subject matter domain but also the reference of the listener. Eg in ELI5 framing, if you don't know what information 5yr olds are expected to know you'll do a poor job at an ELI5.

It often feels like Claude does poorly at both framing the response relative to what it "thinks" the listener knows, but also the prose is... sideways, just weird as you said.
