Wish I could apply for Oxide. Been admiring from afar (physically)

Nah, I'm typically <20% context before I clear and continue

I use opus primarily, on a mix of pure coding tasks, and log parsing / incident investigation.

I don't have the mental capacity to do a lot of context switching between active work streams, so I'm not doing stuff like leaving a big agent workflow running while doing other things.

All through claude code.

Out of school for awhile, but covering low-level topics, down to logic gates, assembly, and doing floating point math manually, is not something I _use_ every day, but was crucial both when programming in higher level languages, and now using AI tools to write code in higher level languages.

It feels like there will be a beefy "middle" where people can probably drop some of that context, and get a lot of productive things done with AI. But there will still be a need for people more deeply knowledgeable and educated. It's probably just not in the proportions we have today.

_Kind of_ like the boom of coding bootcamps. A lot of people got good work done going through a coding bootcamp, but didn't get the deep background that a CS major would.

Coding bootcamps didn't mean we don't need CS education, and neither will AI, I expect. But the numbers and jobs are definitely going to change.

I don't think too hard about usage one way or another -- not tokenmaxxing, not avoiding AI. Regularly use up over $1500/m without really trying.

This is how I feel every time I read an AI PR at work. It looks like it makes sense. And the code passes tests. But it always feels off.

There's a big difference between holding up a phone and taking a picture and just... existing with glasses and having everything recorded without your knowledge.

Can't charge an AI agent itself with a felony, so intent or reckless behavior would have to be assigned to a person or corporation, I'd think.

Yeah it's an interesting turn. I remember seeing him talk about how programming for fun was part of essentially his rehab. Seems like it's turned into something different now if he's looking down on others for doing the same.

What in particular? I've enjoyed watching some of the community update videos and dev videos, but haven't followed the project closely.

In my city in Norway, at least, there is never a traffic pattern where it's not either:

* a small roundabout with really clear pedestrian right of way marked

* a pedestrian path that takes you over or under the road instead of crossing it

It's great!

Depends on the driving culture and familiarity with roundabouts for sure. Moved from the US to a city in Norway with almost exclusively roundabouts, and it's _so much nicer_. Even in the edge cases, I have never once found myself wanting a traffic light.

Simple intersections can have very small roundabouts, and bigger ones you can connect roads from so many weird directions and have traffic flow well that I would never want to return some of the intersections I experienced in the US.

I am an incredibly non-violent person, but have a toddler has really made me work hard to understand the difference in what associations we attach to "violence" as adults.

I try to help him understand this slowly, but a lot of "play" can look violent to my eyes, and I struggle to remember that. A 3 year old just doesn't see it that way yet, and that's fine. But it's hard to remember that in the moment.

Well said. The problem is that vibe coding can paper over bad engineering practices for awhile. And results look good, and when you raise concerns people look at you like you're dumb and trying to slow things down.

But the underlying bad practices _will_ bite the same they would have before AI, you just don't know when.

It's a really frustrating state of the industry to be in.

I went full circle on AI. For an in-editor experience, Zed is top notch. But I've found I actually prefer just to go back to claude code + Zed.
