I guess? But non-monied groups (e.g. volunteer doorknockers, phonebanks) would use the same data to decide where to focus.

Something about trying to deliberately distort the public about the likely status of an election also just feels icky to me. Likely to cause more harm than good.

> Polls are the first step in a pipeline that effectively turns money into votes

What? You’re stating this like it’s self-evident, but I don’t follow.

Digging through the current Haskell standard library - for_ calls traverse_, which calls foldr, which calls foldMap, which calls… foldr. Found the recursion! The person you’re replying to is correct - you can mimic the style of a for loop, but under the hood all of this stuff is going to be implemented with recursion (and tail recursion, if you don’t want to hate your life).

I also may have gotten some detail slightly wrong, the code in Data.Foldable is kinda weird and I haven’t Haskell’d in a while

Anecdotally, the amount of spam I see on Instagram (the meta platform I’m on) is fairly low. I’m also not suggesting that it’s a a simple problem to solve, but that Meta has deep pockets to pay smart engineers and human moderators to solve it. It just seems unrelated to this change.

I think this is far too charitable an interpretation. They could just ban spammers. Facebook doesn’t want links going off of their platform because they get paid for people staying on their platform and looking at ads.

These things are pretty big and Philly sidewalks are narrow enough with just regular pedestrian traffic. Incidentally, I’ve only seen these things in relatively high-foot traffic areas too. This is just tech companies seeing what they can get away with, as usual.

> When you remove this greed and status seeking

I don’t necessarily disagree but it seems like the AI companies are just as status seeking and infinitely greedier.

Ahh fair enough. Guess I wasn’t measuring the length of the observable universe in the frame of the astronaut…
