Back when CAD programs were going mainstream in companies in the 70's and 80's, civil/elec/mech engineers were in an uproar because they thought that CAD was going to replace engineers.

What ended up happening was that draftmen became a profession.

Not saying that we stick our heads in the sand and say AI will just generate jobs, because the cost there will most likely outweigh the benefits in the grand scheme, but there is definitely a world where mathematicians hand down direction to grad students utilizing such tools for research or some other framework that just doesn't resemble what we think of today.

I agree.

I would describe it as externally hosted yet managed specifically because someone else is most likely, whether they admit to it or not, recording some sort of logs on my service and data and that is a choice that I do not own or, in some cases, have access to.

Oh, I hate this so much

I feel like this might be self-preservation of most of the frontier model companies in that at first they wanted to show off the models with all the cool actuators that it had at its disposal, but then when profits weren't keeping up, they nerfed them to need to be specifically asked to escalate levels of effort, which the Google search AI isn't explicitly told to do in its pre-fetch.

I am still trying to understand how installing Tailscale and Claude Code then connecting to your home network externally and opening a mobile terminal on your phone is a novel idea that requires a full Github writeup.

So, I do this when I am sitting on the couch and too lazy to boot up my laptop that I normally do work on, but it never gets much further than updating, pulling or pushing one or two containers, or more times than not trying to remember what port AI have something on so I can connect the companion app to it.

It's not a bad idea in full, but "death coding" is a ridiculous notion.
