the commercial is perfectly centered, the content just moved around it.

off topic, but i hate that 90% of youtube is ai generated now. search results and recommendations in side bar have become useless.

imo, it's obvious for people writing ajax-y web apps, but backend devs need convincing.

i forget where i heard it first, but people may still forgive you after burning down their house, killing their parents, kidnapping their daughters, but will never for calling them stupid.

i partially agree, but a little doubtful too. i remember feeling like i learned a ton after coming out of wikipedia rabbit holes, similar to when chatting with an AI now.

that's good!

but i also don't make any effort to write clearly anymore, might give up easier on a task, will very easily to defer to an AI for x/y/z technical decision, ...

that's not good!

I really hope this succeeds and carries over here. The future of city traffic is quiet, odourless, small electric cars puttering around (hoe nyc would feel so much more welcoming!). Hope to see in my lifetime still

americas peak mid-20th century was in an era of no immigration.

americas soul and institutions were forged more than a century earlier in an era of adventurers striking out on the frontier. these men and women were not scab labor.

and what was so inspiring about e.g. the waves of say italian or irish immigration? the import of ethnic rivalries, tribalism, factionalism, and organized crime was just as well a result of the ellis island wave, don't see much admirable about that.

what's the purpose of a nation, this question was debated at knife's edge a hundred years ago, and the answers then crystalized quite clearly (bolsjevism, fascism, anglo-liberalism/americanism).

after an 80 years detente in the west that it exists solely to safeguard cheap gas for the proles and safeguarding cheap labor for the bourgeois, it's interesting to see that question being asked again.

> the downsides are obvious.

author casually letting that hang there after conjuring a picture of the most wonderful lives well lived, and good outcomes for the nation too!

it's ok to yearn for submission to the soothing comfort of paternal benevolence, don't shy away from saying it.

Crucially too, people do not know _how_ to host anymore either, treat guests. A host needs a certain self effacing attentivess. host also needs to provide an abundance too, there always should be too much food, too muxh drink, more time to stay.
