“life altering”? Oh so like a women and her kids being held at gun point while face down on the hot tarmac of a parking lot cause your stupid ai cameras got the wrong car.

Private companies and authoritative governments have too much to gain from locking things down, and recent examples show that this is happening more, not less, at a fast track pace.

I’d imagine that all of Canonical’s flavors/spins ship with snap, so if the resources are lighter on say xubuntu then it’s probably not snap.

Snap still kinda egh though ;-D

Is this a Ubuntu issue or a Gnome issue? What about Lubuntu, Kubuntu, etc?

One of the big complaints you’d hear a lot from some about EVs early on was the tax on the electric grid.

But whenever it’s AI data centers being discussed, they’re not talked about as a tax, but that they don’t have enough power.

As if the former is a detriment to humanity and the latter is a benefit that deserves more resources, when the opposite is extremely true.

Or perhaps there’s even some Malthusianism at play?

It’s not appropriate. It’s the distro maintainers who force their users.

Why is the burden being put on the developers and not the distro maintainers that (potentially/allegedly) prematurely implemented the new(?) thing?

Really like River. Written in zig btw, which is something to potentially consider given the language’s adolescence. By default river ships with rivertile as its wm which is quite limited (no monocle layout or per tag configuration). Rivercarro is a fork of rivertile that adds these settings and others so I’d recommend starting there. I also just really enjoy doing all the configuring by default with a shell script.
