There's nothing that Israel needs from Germany, in effect the support is little more than symbolic.

I'm not sure why you think that any of this makes Germany look morally superior. I certainly don't feel that way.

As a German, I think you should cut your colleague some slack.

There's 8 billion people in the world who aren't German. If there's one topic that Germans don't chip in on, it won't move the needle.

Whatever we as Germans say on Israel/Palestine will be taken the wrong way by someone. Critical of Israel? Still an antisemite! Supportive of Israel? Pathological guilt!

It super sucks, but I too will leave it to others to voice strong opinions in this matter. And there's no shortage of that.

How does feeling psychologically safe work when the boss is quick to fire "underperformers"?

That's totally a real question because I have trouble imagining this.

Is it the kind of situation where everyone involved, including the person in question, knows they're not up to the task?

It's really not much of a stretch.

In addition to the risks to Tesla raised upthread, SpaceX needs an ambitious space program, and Mars program specifically along the lines of Musk's ideas.

Capturing the US government is a great way to get there.

Obviously yeah, but I do think his odd fervor in this allows us to speculate that there are some threats to his businesses that are not well understood publicly, and that would be solved by becoming a sort of American oligarch.
