What an anti-climax. I'm sure everyone in the hacker news community was eagerly anticipating the skies in December.

I've never met one.

How delightful. I just found the most scrumptious recipe for turkey cranberry flambé that I simply never would have found on google.

I don't have any demographic information to share. But I personally attempt to rate my files. It gives a nice way to categorize by quality. That way I can have abjectly terrible music in my collection, but filter it out for the purposes of not ever wanting to listen to it.

So you can set up apache to host movies on a home network, then stream them with VLC? That sounds like a fantastic solution. Is there a solution for playing music this way on something resembling a stereo that supports playlists?

I just copy it all over the internet. I can't countenance making multiple trips with a usb key, or even worse lugging around an external hard drive.

It's just done with a 2d canvas element. It's been supported in most browsers for a very long time.

At least it wasn't showing images from frontbutt.net.

I started using Ubuntu in 2005, and fell in love with it almost instantly. It was great for a long time before the slide began. It's sad that this site exists.

It's bound to happen. There's too much energy stored in the batteries.

How fast can you text on it?

If you load a buttload of mp3s on there and / or a small library of movies and tv shows, then 16GB is not that much. Especially once you add in a few hundred photos at 3 or 4MB a pop. And some of the more graphically intense games out now surpass the 1GB mark.

And various social media apps have fairly large local caches. Examples include instagram, tumblr, and vine.

So if you're just using a bunch of cloud services you don't need a lot of space, but not everyone uses their mobile that way.

I don't think that's a good idea. If the director didn't intend for a work to have these immersive lights as part of their work, then you are adding a dimension to it that could change the work's meaning.

E.g. What if you used this with the crazy freakout scene at the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey and it totally changed the meaning of the film? Wouldn't that diminish the purpose of the work?

It would be great if your security system could detect an intruder, then make the house uncomfortably warm, thereby encouraging the intruder to leave.
