Generally these are done in coordination with a sewer cleaning truck at the next manhole in the pipe. Very common for them to stay on the phone with each other

That certainly is just a Sewer TV inspection van! I have a hand in writing some of the software that is run on these and processes the videos that come out of them. They all have rack mounted PCs and a monitor with a joystick to control the crawler that goes in the pipe.

If you are ever in Portland, Next Level Pinball Museum is bonkers with over 500 machines. About half of them are pinball machines and all are in top notch condition. Portland in general has a huge pinball scene with several large arcades in and around it.

Sure, for example https://imgur.com/a/HUN9G. Just by playing around with drawing different textures, I was able to get the above with the wave model. I just see it as another digital tool like you do, but with creative use I could see some pretty cool applications in modern art.

A key element of this is it's ability to limit the amount of possible combinations from 1 million to about 1000 due to small flaws in the dials. A contact microphone might be able to even further reduce this search space in combination with the existing exploits.
