Some high level features of the language might be more complicated to implement in assembly than in bytecode. The latter can have instructions more closely matching the language's features.

Similarly, it is quite rare to compile programs directly to assembly. In general, you have some intermediate representations... which can closely resemble some bytecode. The reason is the same: compiling to a higher-level IR is simpler than going directly to assembly.

Well, the human is just a big bag of neurons. So in what sense is its "understanding" more real?

It is perhaps sad, but with our current knowledge of neuroscience, we can't really argue that humans are somehow special. All we can say is that in practice we are still more intelligent/understanding/meaningful/conscious/whatever than LLMs. But for how long?

The first goal is to align the model to the least common denominator of ethics. Even if there is diversity in values, everyone agrees that murder is bad, or that you shouldn't torture your neighbor for fun.

This highlights the core reason why I don't like audiobooks, podcasts, or even movies, compared to reading: it's too slow. Looking at the example, I read two or three times as fast as the audio goes.

What I would need is the opposite: some eye-tracking software that plays the audio at the point I am reading. I don't know if it would be any useful though, as it would be very sped-up, but maybe it would increase "immersion" nevertheless.
