This is a good thing, because you’ve shifted usage from a peak time to a low usage time. The more uniform consumption is, the cheaper it is to supply.
Also, it’s rude to be dismissive of people’s comments, but especially so when you’re actually wrong.
They said an EV is 4x more efficient than an ICE car. You dismissed the claim with “not even close”.
Would it surprise you to learn that a 45mpg car takes about 1kwh of energy to run a mile while an EV uses 0.25-0.35 kwh per mile. That’s 3-4x more efficient.
A datacenter is filled with server racks that wouldn’t burn as readily as cardboard. The fire videos I see of this datacenter don’t look as good as the Wildberries videos.
That said, I wish the Russian people good luck with booking their taxis and Yandex employees luck with finding RAM.
Someone else said the facility needs 370MW. Great, because SMR designs provide 470MW. That’s 100MW excess, given for free to locals to entice them to support the project. That can power 40k homes, easily. People object to these projects partly because their bills go up? Cool, those bills disappear now.
But no, I guess we’re creating massive arrays in space and polluting the night sky forever.
Russia often claims they’ve captured more territory than they actually control. Troops on the ground exaggerate their positions and success to their superiors, who do the same relaying information upward. Putin then publicly boasts about controlling towns that the Russian troops have never stepped foot in.
They only talk about the benefits in the abstract, but not what an energy shock actually means. It means people can’t afford to pay for heating and freeze to death. It means factories close down because the inputs are too expensive. Construction stops because the raw materials (steel, concrete) are too expensive to manufacture, and people don’t have money to pay for new homes.
We have done all these things just in the last 4 years! So why should we do more of it instead of just building more renewable energy?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boots_theory
“The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money. Take boots, for example. ... A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. ... But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while a poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.”
If you go back to GP’s comment you’ll see they accounted for generation and transmission.
They clearly separated the efficiency of the engines with the efficiency of generation and transmission.
The point stands. For the same amount of energy, EVs travel 3-4x the same distance. And you were really rude.
