I felt the same way, and made a CashApp account, but I don't think it matters. It didnt say anything about the fraud account having her email address. It just had her name and they inputted her social. I don't think there's anything you can do but pray.

This story is making me angrier than any story in the news right now

"And yet...you are part of society. Interesting..."

Ironically enough I could have Codex make this for me in like 5 minutes. If there's a published API, a CLI is always within your grasp.

I can't blame any motorist, for any reason, for hitting someone crossing the interstate. If you walk across I-80 then your life is forfeit.

Man this thread is jam packed with sociopaths who don't feel empathy.

That sucks that your business and mental well-being are threatened by AI. It's a scary time for everyone. I hope you figure it out.

You're talking like you're old. You are --25-- my friend, young. No reason to resign yourself to the idea that your friends are all too old.

Not the OP but I would guess its a combination of things

1. The style and motif. I've never met someone who got interested in Linux and didn't immediately appreciate the look and feel of the terminal. People see hackers and fast scrolling text on TV and in movies and it's just fun. Lord knows I was and still am obsessed with CLI and TUI stylings. It brings me joy.

2. It's a lot easier to get started writing a TUI or a CLI. Picking a GUI framework is not easy and many times they are not fun to use. You can only use so many languages to write a GTK app or a QT app. You can use almost any language you want for a CLI tool.

3. CLI and TUI tools are way more universal. I don't have to care if you run GNOME or KDE or if you have GTK-3 or GTK-4 installed or whatever. CLIs and TUIs just work. I can also distribute a single static linked executable instead of a .deb or a Flatpak or something more difficult.

I almost lost my Google account because of Safari. I bought some official Google USB keys https://store.google.com/us/product/titan_security_key?hl=en...

I setup two of them for my Google account but I made them both in Safari. Only one of them worked. What if both of them failed? I would have been fucked.

I re-made them on Chrome and they both worked.

Kinda feels more like [Denial]? What bargain am I making?

Seems like its just a bunch of young engineers making bad architecture decisions. Not sure I would blame the culture of vibe coding everything. It might just be bad taste.

I couldn't possibly predict but I just doubt things will be as bad as everyone thinks, they never are.

Yeah I feel this. My strongest passion in computing is simply learning how the machine and OS work. The code I would write would usually be experiments, not projects or tools.

I'm less pessimistic than the author though. There is always room for people who know what they are talking about. Take a deep breath.

Maybe it's about money, but it's definitely about porn. From the article:

However, in September 2025, the Taliban banned the use of fibre-optic internet in Balkh, and the restriction was later extended to several other provinces. In some cases, local Taliban officials said the move was aimed at “preventing vice”.

Heavy THC vaping absolutely screws up my bowels. The Munchies eventually changes into anorexia and constipation.
