And using AI's favourite phrase, a deep dive, is also offputting.

(I mean, is he grading the dive?)

A Mathematicians Lament mentions students explaining rather than reciting the equations, too, to correctly learn them

I've yet to see a well-loved widely-used vibe-coded (rather than just AI-assisted) app that has gone live, and then gone through multiple feature additions and remained secure and used.

Well, people aren’t coding to keep their skills and knowledge fresh.

And they’re not even learning from their AI agents since they’re not closely reviewing the code.

The chance of code quality increasing seems remote.

And that’s not to mention the new generation—having rarely coded enough to properly review code.

Nor to mention the AI learning from AI coded slop: mad cow disease for AI.

What do we have, no programmers, no one knowing what’s going on inside the test passing slopy black box, except a caretaker guy who’s kept their skills sharp by not using AI—with their time taken up trying to understand constantly rewritten code?

Smoking, drinking, watching adult films. Arguing that adding another to think list leads to "everything" is rather a stretch

These kind of incidents would leave me and you in trouble with the police then?

Is mathematics deprived of the associated knowledge that comes from a human first deriving a proof, how exploring the problem domain including the dead-ends has changed the mathematician's thinking, when a proof is given by AI? It seems that the solving rather than just the solution gave much to mathematics.

Society benefits when in person collaboration builds understanding and creates new ideas and approaches /in both parties/.

Since now the former potential collaborators are feeding on more or less the same generated content, it's hard to see how AI will replace that.

And that's not the mention the further alienation it causes, as heavily alluded to in the article.

Avoiding the question and refusing the back up your claim may also not work.

Didn't Linus say he stopped coding a while ago, or at least coding the kernel, and mainly reviews and manages the codebase now? Whether the code comes from a machine or a human, perhaps it matters little to how he's been working for a while.

It's interesting that although I guess he reviewed this LLM generated code, the human review found a race condition.

Arguing that the artist's own hardwork, and through that their personality and soul, is integral to art is not snobbery: snobbery is stating that "ordinary" art is beneath you.

And now it has been exacerbated further

Art was never separate from the person and the culture that created it. It was its soul. Now our lives are flooded with soulless creations night and day--the product of lazy minds and an amalgamation of stolen already-bland cultural works.

This also happened with the introduction of TV.

https://www.stuartmcmillen.com/comic/town-without-television...

And the IQs of those born after 1975 via the reverse Flynn Affect, those who had these devices of consumption and easy answers such as TV, and later Social Media, AI, etc has been decreasing.

I can only imagine a further and speedier decline will happen, and is happening.

The achievement and commitment of others inspires us to reach further and further. Now that's being eroded I wonder what the future will hold.
