I think this this the perfect time to bring back old 90-00s webhosting, web rings and all and get them to be trendy and viral if some celebrity could pull people in and get them off this dirtyweb, bot-ridden and dead-internet-theoried. People have been veered hard into content creation and running their own little merchandise dropship etc businesses and all of the options are dinosaurs now.

Wordpress is getting its popularity nuked from orbit, there is definitely room for another "internet" that isn't walled garden social media app slop. Might even get kids into computers again.

But in this admin, economy and no startup capital and a million other things going on right now I don't think it will ever happen.

I think the reqs were 12 years old and $171 or $271

Coming from $300/yr colorado insurance its a steal

I'm full time in a camper right now so this entire conversation is extra fun because I don't have a physical address anywhere which is a whole other ball of worms just insuring and registering my truck.

You don't get the nuance that there are people who enjoy the writing the code part more than they enjoy the handholding and hitting enter on a prompt part. And they write it fast or concise enough to not need to prompt engineer bicker with a machine.

And as soon as an edge case pops up that your model will have never been able to hear about because it hasn't been released publicly, security vuln, whatever, you'll get a "fix" confidently hallucinated at you and be none the wiser.

There's going to be a huge pendulum swing with all the llm zombies and sanewashing it like this isn't helping anyone.

All of this just oozes junior engineer if you're even employed in the field at all.

Whats your YOE, like when did you enter tech as a SWE?

This shouldn't be normalized for you yet unless you're at a faang pushing this at the edge and new to the field, cause this isn't what we used to do 2 years ago.

If you're happy with the ai slop $$$ job more power to you but that isn't the entire field and there used to be (and hopefully still are) good and fun engineering jobs.

Contrary to popular normie belief, no not everyone wants to work at the Metas and OpenAIs and for good reason.

edit: Guys a literal business owner writing code for his own business, christ, what a waste of my time. So instead of hiring actual engineers you try to make it sound like you're employed as a software engineer and your experience is remotely normal. You are the literal business owner not filling seats because you're using AI.

"I'm paid to just shut up and code, baby!"

Yeah, that isn't a real SWE job, bud, don't make comments like you're in the trenches.

This is like watching weekend car tinkerers argue with Ferrari mechanics about their tooling. "I'm never going to write code ever again."

I thought I would enjoy owning a house and doing upgrades and what not. Everything was 10x the work, less possible than expected, more expensive than you could imagine. Then your ceiling caves in, the water heater dies at exactly 10 years, the pollen clogs the pool pump you never use.

Cars are way more fun but the return on investment sucks.

All of the popular surveillance apps correlate your email address and phone numbers mostly, but if you used [email protected] to sign up for [email protected] google knows and marks it as your altnerate account, it could give them all your 30 rando gmails, you're then linked by phone activations through those emails to everything else, whatsapp, telegram, credit card purchase, etc. the biggest link in the chain is always the phone number though. They also have a big "Alternate Emails" button. Everything fans out from those.

I don't know how deep palantir can build profiles on someone, like digging into comment histories and extrapolating you are x y or z sort of stuff. I'm sure they've learned a lot about people via public irc logs and discord servers. But the only screenshots I've seen have been way more simple than that, basically a facebook UI that gives them buttons for all the apps with the phone # that has been identified as you the user, so it would be your list of social media apps accounts and they just click in and read messages. These screenshots have popped up in court cases recently.

We need to stop using the same phone numbers and rotate them constantly. Ideally back to something like fi that masks your "real" isp account phone number. They need to stop being a 2fa and especially stop being able to identify a person. Carry a dumb 2fa. I've always been on the "dont ask for my phone number to use your service" bandwagon but absolutely now.

And now some banks are doing instant voice recognition. I don't pick up my phone for any number I don't know anymore.

I accidentally let qwen wipe my 60tb nas the other day, and the tao of that is "well at least i dont have to stress about what im doing with my 30 years of rando .docs, facebook pics, games, ebooks and star trek episodes anymore"

c'est la vie, it was only 2tb filled and mostly games

Like giving a 6yo unix jr eng a crayon and root login. "you made them ALL apfs at the same time??" sorry dad. i can't believe people use this in prod, but i know i'm also not flagging perms my pi is ready to roll! gotta watch qwen3.6, they will be getting demoted.

Giving a text assumption engine root access to the world, "hey little clanker, heard you understand 10% of every topic, go nuts."
