Bowers vs Hardwick was only three years old when this aired. Homosexuality was illegal in half the states in the country, generally prosecuted under anti-sodomy laws. More than half of states still have (currently unenforceable) bans in place on same-sex marriage. The majority of those have them in their state constitutions.

Alabama didn't consider forced sex to be rape if the victim was married to the rapist until 1986. Oklahoma and North Carolina didn't until 1993. Women were not allowed to box in Massachusetts until 1992. Virgina voted against ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment as recently as 2018 (although it ratified it in 2020).

AI and hyperscaler datacenters run at such a high usage rate that they have to coordinate with generating facilities regarding outages. The difference between their actual duty levels and "flat out around the clock" is so small to be negligible when considering grid operations. Not all datacenters fit this category, but the ones that don't are not worth considering in terms of grid planning, either, so again this is a difference worth ignoring.

Nicely sliced. Weekly wages for full time workers have been rising for decades while fewer workers work full time. I don't think this data backs your assertion.

Yes, and each iteration of your comment picks a different date and a different 'killer feature' that 'made them usable'

The problem with this argument is that people have been saying "it just recently got good" for about two years now.

Estimates I've seen from professionals tend to put that number a couple of orders of magnitude lower.

However, I don't think it's a coincidence that Finland's wolf population was in the headlines last year for growing by half.

Local democracy doesn't get to define its own business model, so of course it's broken.

This article is full of Georgist talking points and complaints about the structure of municipal funding, but provides no solutions aside from the land value tax the author's organization was founded to promote. Such a tax is unconstitutional in many American states, and implementing it as presented in this article would require simultaneously reorganizing the entire Federal municipal grant system. A well-meaning but forlorn-hope effort.

And given the rapidity with which that decision was thrown in the trash and abandoned, we have no reason to assume it made sense to revisit it in the first place.

Every certificate library has to implement its own blocking no matter which platform you run on. Windows provides an API to do this at the system level, which means nothing if a given application vendors their own TLS library.

"HOAs and homeowners have always been at odds" might be the most succinct description of the problem that modern "homeowner associations" constitute.
