Fully agree. I supplement my game development with AI. Anything novel or interesting I want to do, I need to write the code for myself, otherwise I'm in for a world of hurt. But for the drudgery work that is necessary to invest a lot of time in but boring to actually write, I design a clear architecture and ask AI to do the implementation leg-work. And still you have to go back over and make sure it didn't decide to just create something outlandish. A good recent example is Codex trying to recreate from scratch the behaviour already provided by Area2D in a game I'm making with Godot.

If you try and get AI to do anything meaningful, it will be riddled with footguns and bizarre choices. Maybe if you have hundreds of dollars worth of tokens that might not be the case - but for someone who spends $10 a month, it's just not worth the headache.

Besides, for me these are hobby projects and writing code is still fun, I just make AI write the boring parts (good examples: saving and loading, parsing of data files and settings menu functionality) - but I keep it away from anything that needs a humans judgement to create.

Is there anybody local that wants the cats to stay? Sounds to me like the program is working as intended. Sure tourists love it, but if there's nobody local to look after the animals welfare, it should end the way it's been planned it seems to me.

That's exactly it, these wasps existed previously and were just discovered to be distinct from other wasps. Speciation tends to take a very long time (on the order of hundreds of thousands to millions of years) or much shorter if there's a strong enough pressure (e.g. something drastically alters an ecosystem and opens up a lot of new niches for a species to radiate into) but still on the order of tens of thousands of years, see [1] for a great example. This of course depends on generation time (evolution only happens to populations, not individuals), so we see quite rapid evolution in things with short generation times like bacteria.

For invetebrates like small wasps like this one, it's typically taking the time to sit down and actually identifying them, some species are quite cryptic and it's only obscure or small morphological features that can be used to separate them by eye, and requires genetic analysis to compare and confirm that it's a new species.

I have an entomologist friend and yes, that does happen. There are probably countless new species that have specimens in museums and universities right now that just haven't been properly analysed

Very skeptical. I would also like more detail in the article, what was the DNA collected from? Hair? Saliva? How was it stored, collected and tested? Who sent it in? This website has a bit of detail around what can be tested: https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/lifesci/research/archaeobotany...

The immune system does this all the time. They're called natural killer cells (NK Cells) and they regularly target cells that have become cancerous or infected.

Wow I wasn't expecting it to be as bad as it is. Charging per download and install and removing the cheaper tiers is ridiculous. Good news for any griefers out there who feel like making a particular game developer lose money, just download and install the game a handful of times. What a terrible decision by Unity, shame for all the developers who have spent years and years learning a powerful tool run by complete sociopaths

Yes in hindsight it's obvious the tank is non-harmful, but when it was a complete mystery it's important to do due diligence to ensure it is safe.

Really? You don't sympathise with people getting murdered by Nazi's whilst defending their homeland because of the actions of a colonial government? If you drew a venn diagram of the people fighting against the Nazi's and the people committing colonial atrocities there wouldn't be a great deal of overlap save the exiled government and the churches. Most of the resistance were communists and other anti-fascist groups, hardly banner waving imperialists.
