If you turn around and make a billion dollars a year off the stuff you torrented I’m sure something will happen to you.

Casio watches especially gschock really feel like they solved the goal of watches. Let people know the time accurately and cheaply.

I have a few “dress” watches I’ll wear to weddings and my smartwatch which is nice for the gym and general. But I still have a gshock I keep around for traveling or when I just want something that will work.

The idea you can toss it in a bag or throw it on and it will just tell you time accurately without worrying about it dying or having to maintain it is still incredible.

With Claude it feels like you don’t need IDE’s anymore though. emacs/vim are more relevant than ever imo.

I agree. If it’s a question of just cost - (animals being cheaper to just test on quickly and faster) animal testing shouldn’t be allowed.

Is this a joke? Who’s upvoting this? It should be titled “I didn’t even bother asking an LLM to configure my server”

For a mere mortal. But AI can simply hallucinate new elements that defy physics. Then it’s just up to us to go find those hallucinated elements!

I’m sure there are people who aren’t looking at the code at all. But for those that are I guess I’m wondering why bother with an IDE anymore? I’m finding I can just review everything I need to with a text editor like Neovim now. Even GitHub review is probably good enough for people.

I love their tools and am keeping my subscription for now, but would have to agree.

VSCode has been eating at their users for years now. Jetbrains tools still were much better in my opinion but they are competing with “free” and “good enough”. With AI getting better, the main advantages of Jetbrains are gone.

I don’t need a massive IDE anymore. I still need an editor, but there’s hundreds of better tools for quick edits than a massive IDE.

It’s a company at the end of the day, but I hope they find a niche or pull a Garmin play like you said, otherwise I don’t see them being relevant.

Just to add, KOReader might not look super use friendly at first, but I highly recommend giving it a try. It’s an amazing reader.

Once your used to it, the controls are a lot better than stock kindle as well imo.

If I want to read AI output, I’ll just ask my own AI. I’m not going to bother reading someone else’s AI.

It really does feel like such a waste. If I switch to Android I might as well toss my Apple Watch out and vice versa. Along with the fact they basically require the phone to do nearly anything.

If this is targeted at competing with git, I agree it’s a useless attempt.

If it’s targeted at working alongside git, and competing with the “local history” provided by like vscode, jetbrains and even vim where they track all saves to files it might serve a purpose?

The latter could be “useful” as an offline record. But the way they’re talking about sharing that, it feels like this is targeted at replacing git.

The “claude says” is the part this pisses me off about LLM use now. If I wanted a Claude answer I’d ask Claude. If I ask a human I want a human response not a “here’s what Claude said”.

I feel like people believe whatever they want and the narrative changes to “can you 105% guarantee aliens didn’t build them?”

I mean even if you could people would still believe whatever they want… must be tiring for sure.

I’ve always used vim/neovim but fell in love with some of the features of emacs (org, magit, lisp). My problem was spending the time to configure it though.

Even with spaceman’s/doom and the amazing documentation it was always still so much work to configure emacs as a newer user. LLMS have made this nearly instant.

This is a bit of a ramble but it’s so amazing having emacs and an LLM now, I don’t even touch vscode anymore and only find myself touching things like IntelliJ when I really need to dig into something with a debugger.
