first day on earth? go check out the rain forests and oceans while they still exist, before our insane conspiracies to sell something exterminate them

In the case of cops there's basically no way to interact with them that's both safe and makes them happy. But I just keep a printed version of my insurance for that reason.

I'm confused about what "bothered to find the proper name" means for a feature they believe they're inventing. If they believed it had a name that would mean they already know it exists.

Does this have some use case that the Perseus Digital Library doesn't already serve?

Militaries aren't unconditionally good or just. There are, to put it mildly, valid criticisms of how the products of western arms manufacturers are used by legal militaries.

The headline is more ambitious, that's probably what they meant

Oh, you don't know what bigotry is.

That's pretty much how I use it for software too. I don't want it to make stuff for me. I do want it to unblock me when I feel stuck unraveling something arcane.

I didn't call that commenter an LLM, despite what I'd consider an embarrasing lack of mental model of what it means for a speculative fiction novel to age poorly. Who am I bigoted against?

What are you talking about? Bigotry against a program that's literally incapable of understanding semantic meaning?

To say "anticlanker" sounds like you hate LLMs, or do you approve of them and you use that term disparagingly? I am not "anticlanker" I'm just a person who is aware that unscrupulous people very very frequently have LLMs generate comments and posts for them

I've often dreamed of and revisited this idea. I first started thinking of it seriously when I realized I was paying the same rent in February as in January despite a significantly shorter-than-mean (30.4375) month...!

My ideal year is 12 months, each 5 weeks long, each week 6 days long. At the summer solstice, 3 intercalary days (bank holidays), at the winter solstice, 2 or 3 intercalary days depending on leap year.

> The rowdy Venetians beating the shit out of each other came from a society with strict rules about honor and dueling, and they dueled over honor.

You're doing exactly the thing you described at the top of your comment.

TFA explicitly mentions that participants would regularly sneak deadly weapons into the fights and had to be policed.

I also don't think street fights are particularly honorable at all. They literally were just deciding disputes by a combination of force and deception (which plays a role in all combat) rather than communication, compromise, cooperation, diplomacy, empathy, or any other virtue. Slashing a critic's throat doesn't make your viewpoints valid it just makes them unchallenged.

Weirdly favored, if it is an LLM. Of course bad actors will be training them out of the obvious rhetorical tells, but a complete lack of semantic reasoning will fortunately always be a valid reason to ignore or dismiss someone's arguments, human or chatbot.
