If you think the terms are unfair to you, you have the option to not do business with this particular bank. If all banks do the same, have you thought there's a financial reason behind it that you might not be aware of (say, default rate, operational costs, etc).

If you're aware of a financial crime, please report it to the SEC or one of the other financial regulators through their whistleblower hotline. You may be in for a big payday.

The article brings back fond memories. We had the feeling of being part of something new and exciting. This was also a good way to combine fun and learning. The skills I developed then set me on a path to (relative) success which I'm not sure I'd have found otherwise.

Weird that CNN couldn't help inserting a race comment in a story that has nothing to do with it (case in point: we had a black kid in our group of friends doing LAN parties, and we never thought of him as black, he was just one of us, a human being whom you'd define across infinitely many dimensions, and definitely not just skin color).

Surely you can discern the aspects of the internet experience that have degraded vs those that have improved?

Yellen supposedly told Greenspan & co in the mid 90s that 2% was a good way for companies to be able to adjust labor costs down if needed (if you don't give someone a raise when inflation is 2%, you're effectively lowering their salary). It was the only way to have some flexibility there. If you admit that this is a desirable thing, this is defeated by wage negotiations (or say, benefits) than tend to be indexed to inflation.

Another interesting thing that happened under Greenspan is how inflation is computed (hedonics, replacements, etc... conceptually, think "if I can't buy a porterhouse steak anymore, I'll get the lesser hanger", meaning inflation is underreported). I'm not suggesting this was intentional or coordinated, but this had the huge benefit for federal and local governments that it lowered the benefits they had to pay out that were linked to inflation. Issue is it hurts the poor more.

I'm also interested in the answer to that.

Curious, what do you mean by "know what you go into" re glusterfs?

I recently tried ceph in a homelab setup, gave up because of complexity, and settled on glusterfs. I'm not a pro though, so I'm not sure if there's any shortcomings that are clear to everybody but me, hence why your comment caught my attention.

Do you have a better suggestion?

If you know any, you can blow the whistle on them. You could be in for a nice pay day.
