I think you need to add another adjective in there to describe this group that feels like their rights are taken away by Apple.

I used Linux as my daily driver for many years. I enjoy deeply tweaking my system. But I switched to macs when life got busier because I didn’t feel particularly keen being forced to tweak my system constantly. I’ve personally not felt constrained by macOS, so maybe I’m not as erudite of a config wizard as I thought or because I let things like nix-darwin and home-manager do the heavy lifting. But that’s more an aesthetic choice than one made to achieve specific functionality. Maybe I do have more patience for configuring at the whims of others, as my nix setup breaks every major release whereas my previous personal dot files manager written in posix shell does not.

Most the people I know that espouse things similar to the parent use Linux not because they were constrained by another OS, but because it appeals to their ideology. They’d rather be on OpenBSD if they could stomach it. That’s fine and good, but should be transparent.

To others out there wondering, I offer the counter-perspective that this “twist” is not nearly as profound or even unexpected as folk are making it seem.

I have both of these keyboards (as well as the Moonlander, Voyager and Go60).

The thumb cluster on the Glove is significantly more comfortable for me than the Ergodox / Moonlander. I never found either of the latter boards particularly comfortable. That said, I only really use the three innermost thumbs on the Glove.

The Go for me has a reasonable thumb cluster but the middle “resting” key is slightly further than what I was used to. It took a few days to adjust.

If you want something really comfortable try a Svalboard, but it requires more training.

I doubt this entirely. It might be quite difficult for said human to discern whether a simple passage were generated sans such accumulated experience in reading AI text, true. But LLMs do not converse like humans in ways that have always been essentially immediately obvious.
