Funnily enough that isn’t too far from where Cisco themselves started.

When they started making smallish dedicated routers I remember opening one to see a dodgy backplane and a number of big boards plugged in held up only by minimal slides. The minute it got hot (which it did because no air management) those boards sagged in the middle and it just looked slapdash. The 3Com equivalents were always better built but Cisco had such mindshare it didn’t matter the products were a bit crap

The moat doesn’t exist, at least for models used for coding. I switch to what is cheapest for the task at hand and while Claude was my go to at the start of the year now it’s just in the rotation. There is no friction in switching.

This isn’t perspective it’s trolling.

That is a silly comparison.

The trend of ignoring convention and pushing the boundaries of what is legal certainly seems to stem from Gingrich but from an outsider view it seems to have its origins with the Nixon administration

Not sure this is really anemoia, but I greatly enjoy listening to the big CD box sets of music from labels like Atlantic that stretch back to the 1940s. Everybody sounds like they are having a lot of fun and the liner notes talking of the Chitlin’ circuit sound exotic.

A lot of that music didn’t really become part of Australian culture (unlike Motown) so the first two decades sound fresh to my ears.

It’s like time travelling, to be transported to a place and time when that music was created. It kinda does make me feel I missed out on something wonderful despite knowing America’s chequered history of race relations.

Cheapest and easiest way to kill people is starvation and disease. Bullets are quick but relatively expensive compared to that

This is where the Trump administrations mindless stupidity works in our favour. While Trump continues to prevaricate on aid and throws lifelines of paltry diesel deals, Putin will stay his hand on nuclear weapon use.

I admire your attitude and encourage other US citizens to follow your example.

I despair that the gangster mentality that the current administration has will simply continue unless they are removed from office.

That is a very odd definition of “spiritual”

The argument presented was a giant gish gallop of regurgitated nonsense from the manosphere with no basis in fact. Be better.

Just so you know, that feeling of your brain requiring spirituality to fill it is by no means universal.

This isn’t historically true. Women used to work outside the home, it’s a relatively recent phenomenon that the nuclear family with a stay at home mother was the norm. So the basis of your argument is false

I am a senior engineer. I adapted faster than most of the people I work with. It doesn’t matter that the tool can improve your productivity if you don’t know where to start which a lot of juniors don’t. They still need leaders to guide them and apportion the work.

AI still isn’t a magic bullet either. I spend some of my days undoing the unholy mess that generated code is.

I’m sure we had kid pix studio for windows, may have come bundled with something like a graphics card. Definitely unusual, although I don’t remember my kids engaging with it as there were a lot of other kid oriented programs when the whole multimedia PC was in vogue. Hard to compete with Reader Rabbit. Great story though.
