It's a controllable dimmer switch that I fade in over the course of an hour or so using a Home Assistant script.

Technology could be so much more useful and fun if we just fully banned the collection and sale of personal data. We've been dreaming of smart homes for, like, 80 years, but advertising ruined it just like it ruins everything. Imagine how cool it would be to able to connect devices to the internet for purely functional purposes without them spying on you!

I've been using a smart switch to fade in a light (one of the "sun-like" full-spectrum ones) over my head in the morning and it's been really effective for regulating my circadian rhythm. Even with little sleep, I will naturally wake up in the morning at a much more regular time.

>which is even more bloated and ad infested.

Since when? I never see any ads at all on my Android phone. I can use uBlock Origin in my browser and I can install 3rd party ad-free clients for apps like YouTube and Twitch.

This is what people are actually mad about when businesses use AI art. You claim to live in an artistic community, great, ask your staff if they have any friends who draw who want to come by and make a quick $100. You spent more money on a worse result that alienates your community.

Am I missing something? Who cares? This isn't a security issue, it's just an unexploitable crash on bad data.

>you must waste screen space on pointless title/status bars for some reason

There is macwmfx: https://github.com/aspauldingcode/macwmfx

I use it on a couple specific apps to remove title bars. You can inject it with DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES.

It's equally possible there was one engineer with some free time who thought it would be cool.

Yeah, or to put it a different way, an ineffective, easily corrupted, and insufficiently representative government is the problem.

>replace the current economic system with something where we're not all in a fierce knife fight to try to stay employed

Jobs will become even more scarce, so how does that follow?

>robots can liberate us from capital's death grip

We are already live in a world sufficiently technologically advanced to feed and house everyone, and yet we don't.

It's so naive to think that US companies won't do (or aren't already doing) the exact same thing but for money.

I have a less powerful PC in my living room that's connected via ethernet

Nope! That's just how a normal conversation works.

I'm looking at the performance stats streaming a game to my living room PC right now, and total latency is about 4-5ms, which would be unnoticeable even on a 120hz TV.
