Sure but that’s a far cry from the “Magyar is just another Orbán style despot” vibe that this thread started with. It just means Hungary is Little America.

Can you elaborate? I mean to my limited outsider understanding, Magyar's entire platform "exactly as right wing as Orban, but with less corruption and with proper democratic civil liberties". Does signing some symbolic agreement about "boo antifa" really break with that promise?

Fwiw your homepage is borderline unreadable. It’s like 100% slop, 0% signal.

Somehow this comment was flagged to death, I really don’t get it. Anyway, I clicked “vouch” and now it’s back.

I can’t imagine humans would flag this comment and not your others (like i could vaguely imagine some militant atheist going crazy, but why only flag the “thanks my pleasure” comment then?), so it’s gotta be some weird HN algorithm. Weird shit!

Wow this was an amazing read, thanks.

The puffery is the webpage copy, not the automation to produce the map.

Nice! I’d been wondering about this for a while too and reading the thread I come to the same conclusion as you. If Apple can survive without splashing those symbols all over then surely LEGO can as well.

Yeah but LEGO is a corporation. Daft Punk is two artists.

> DAFT PUNK™

I quite like Daft Punk but that ™ makes them uncool very quickly. Immediately makes me assume it's just a brand name now, run by an agency, music work outsourced to freelance ghost composers, and so on. Like Philips TVs and "Jamie Oliver" cookware.

Appreciate the recommendation. I like Radiohead a fair bit but I had blatantly assumed Pyramid Song was their last/best work and I kinda stopped paying attention to them since. Will be looping this one for a while!

I feel like this article way downplays the entire point of UUIDv7s, which is that it lets you sort (and store!) your data kinda sorta by creation time, no overlap ever. That's great for cursors, for streaming data, for twitter clones, for chat messages, for player moves, and so on and so forth. Nearly everything that's vaguely realtimey that you might like to both persist and broadcast live to other clients, and displayed in a stable & reasonable order, benefits from a property like this.

In fairness, he does mention this, but squeezes it into a single sentence near the end. But eg the fact that you can't reliably extract the precise timestamp from the UUIDv7 is a feature, not a bug. It's either that or collisions and you don't want the collisions.

Huh? You’re arguing for carriers to inspect all traffic to block scammers? That’s way more intrusive than google blocking sideloading. The outrage on places like HN would be deafening.

Ok so AIs can pretty reliably write tight for loops now. How the hell did we, as an industry, go from there to “we don't need to think anymore”? Just fart into the idea processor and register a tld amirite?

Wtf is going on folks, can we lay it off already and start thinking and caring about thinking again?
