I'd argue that it's more akin to ingredient labeling for food so you can at least have some confidence that you're not reading mindless generated slop. It's not perfect, and the writing can still be bad, but at least it's you're trying to avoid subjecting yourself to LLM generated garbage.

Assuming that you're correct and it is a monoculture plantation, they did not remove trees to make space for planting other species, they removed trees to make space for a data center.

What an odd thing to have a LLM make. There are already plenty of options for existing software for film scanning. I use negPy (https://github.com/marcinz606/NegPy) to scan photos with a digital camera setup, but it interfaces with quite a few film scanners (anything supported by SANE) and handles inversion and editing quite nicely. You can then export to any other software to do image based tagging, though adding dates and location is still going to be somewhat tedious (negPy does have a bulk edit functionality that helps with this).

Also the mouse take-over is no bueno on the site. And some of the fonts are really grainy.

How lately? They have been releasing quite frequently, and have worked a bit to clean up the UI and workflows after adding a ton of new features. I've been using it and it's working quite well for me after version 0.60-ish

I feel like if anything LLMs have reduced coding/software to "throw as much as possible at the wall and see what sticks". It feels quite shortsighted and wasteful, especially considering that humanity needs to get better about how it produces and consumes energy. It's sort of bleak.

Is there data to show that pets actually cause more damage? I see this argument get thrown around quite frequently (often by landlords), but I don't buy that it's a major issue.

It reminds me of my first time in Europe as an American. You go to a cafe, look at the prices, and know exactly how much money you are going to be handing them. It felt like magic because I couldn't remember the last time I paid just the advertised price on anything.

Now, unfortunately in places like the UK, tips are becoming more frequent as well as a discretionary 12.5% service charge at restaurants. And everything online has a convenience fee.

I wish governments would get serious about price transparency. The solution is quite simple, but I fear that with algorithmic pricing things are going to be getting much worse in the short term.

In my experience, every company with more than 1000 employees absolutely has garbage project managers!

In my case, it would be to make sure I have a good mental model of the problem at hand instead of offloading it to a LLM. I'd also rather not put myself in a position where I'm reliable on a LLM to do my job.

Oh and there are also the huge moral and ethical issues with the companies that offer LLMs.

How big is your circle? What industries does it span? Maybe the people writing 0% code manually are outliers and your circle is relatively small?

Citation needed?

Sure you can churn out more code with a LLM, but is it good code? Is it correct? If being left behind means I don't ship slop, I'll gladly bow out.

The point really isn't just the use of technology. People don't complain when a hand drawn poster is photocopied! The issue is that it's taken a human out of the creative process _and_ it's using the plagiarism machine that is also making everything worse while enriching a handful of the worst people. It's a sign of how lazy the event organizer is, and how little they care about people, which is especially foolish for an event where you would like "people" to show up.

Don't get me started as well on how the iCloud plans jump from 200gb to 2TB with absolutely nothing in between. Apple really knows how to extort their customers!

If you're concerned about code generation, then learn how to actually write the damn code yourself!

Neat, but sort of ironic their main product is an "AI clock" that takes an intrinsically human act, writing a poem, and pulls the human out of the loop.

It's nice that they explained the process to a bunch of kids, helping to de-mystify something quite abstract to many of us (where does all the stuff come from?).

I just think that perhaps we have over-indexed on STEM and this is a prime example of that. The article mentions talking about industrial designers, which is cool.

> I want these kids to become designers, engineers, inventors, factory owners, and all the rest.

but what about the poets?

It's the sort of thinking that I've seen all over tech, where people are so focused on/obsessed with using technology to solve problems they seem to forget and lose appreciation for all the people that make their lives possible and enjoyable.

Anyway, cool article but don't buy the slop-flinging e-waste please.
