What's the future of cybersecurity going to look like? A rapid shift to shoving everything into microvm's to minimize attack surface?

Because the fear mongering is instantly interpreted as the capacity to do miraculous (good or bad) things in the layman's mind, which translates into AI worship, which makes stock lines go up.

The Chinese lab playbook is to normalize what seems out of reach for the average person with cheaper access and open models. ie. to take the top guys down a peg

I never thought of that. Humans avoid machine code for many reasons. If LLM's don't need to produce human-readable output, then why not?

Oof, I've never heard of that and it sounds amazing

At the bottom:

"Use of AI: The author prompted Claude and ChatGPT interactively to simplify the proofs, focusing only on disproving basic statement of ETH, without optimizing log factors. The author expanded the proofs manually and made them more human-readable and added explanations and a worked example."

I wonder how much electricity just gets flushed down the toilet making this stuff.

I'm curious myself, in fact I was kind of relieved to read a long, well written article and just thought it felt human. I hope I'm right

Yes, if you look at the examples the author used such as Indian cotton or tobacco as drivers of increased voluntary labor, both of those carried immediate intangible value as status symbols or bragging rights on top of their material value. It further stratified society which led to more people wanting more stuff and... on and on. What is this cognitive surplus value going to bring? I don't get it.

I guess their point is that, for example-- instead of requiring heaps of study and a genius mind to learn to how to reverse engineer complex things over the course of years, their intelligence can go to something that... AI can't do yet?

The N64 dev scene seems to be taking off too. If I had to guess, working around limitations in hardware are the fun part for a lot of people.

My wife and I sent our son to a remote "boarding school" type school near where we live in Japan. No phones or electronics beyond an mp3 player are allowed. We're so lucky it is cheap and readily available here.

The school's policy isn't necessarily from a "phones bad mmmkay?" perspective, but from a "our ancestors had to figure stuff out for themselves, let's foster that" perspective.

I watched Hackers for the first time in decades recently. Maaaannnn what amazing times they were. Like cowboys exploring the west or something

I know what you mean. Recreating the retro art style of Monkey Island is easy for AI but those little quirks in dialogue and comedic moments... Can an AI do that?

It's like, when I watch a movie and there's a married couple arguing or having a romantic date, it's believable. But if I spent a whole day with those two people still acting like they are married-- would I still be fooled into thinking that what they are doing and saying is the result of an organic relationship over years? I would hope not

Weird times we are living in.

I trap and kill hare, and make cheese from fresh milk from my friend's dairy farm. But no, I do not kill the cows that I eat.

What do immigrants have to do with this? I shared my opinion that living like our ancestors did is the way I'd like to continue my life. If you have a counter opinion, can you offer it?

Tell you what, I'll keep eating beef, walking to work, and not using AI. Closer to how our ancestors lived for hundreds of thousands of years, so it can't be too off the mark.

I mean that sounds nice, but when you have countries like China and India, they are going to be far more focused on lifting their population out of poverty over lowering emissions. From their perspective, we're living the planet destroying lives and the first world shouldn't have a say in the matter
