I’ve read about this actually happening now in ski towns since otherwise their employees couldn’t afford to live within a 1 hour drive.

Because the M6 Pro and Max were cancelled. So their alternatives were to either sandbag the base MacBook Pro by leaving it on the M5, which wouldn't make much sense if M6 exists, or wait to release these new Pros until the M7 line is available. Since both of those seemed like a bad plan, they went with this one.

That doesn’t really help much if you want to connect an arbitrary number of nodes to eachother (each of which is potentially on an entirely different LAN), does it? That’s really the whole point of Tailscale.

Probably all people that fell for the “superbox” TV streamer scam.

I’m thinking about it, but I’m pretty sure the trust and safety org was far less than 75% of their employees. The low level human moderator work was almost all outside contractors, not employees included in their headcount and layoff numbers.

It’s true they had a decent sized trust and safety org that was basically all fired, but I don’t think it was anywhere close to most of the layoffs. They laid off ~75% of their headcount, do you really think the company was 3/4 (or even 1/4) trust and safety moderators?

I use OpenAI models all the time (via Codex) and I've never seen this pro toggle. Where are you seeing that?

If you’re referring to DOOM, wasn’t it programmed in C, not C++?

The thing that Steve Jobs was demoing actually released just 6 months later. I'd be very surprised if anything close to what was demoed here is released even 6 years later.

Let anyone who has never said “this old big ball of mud isn’t even worth fixing, the only move forward is to completely throw it away and rewrite it from scratch!” cast the first stone.

People keep making comments like this about Nokia, but is there really any chance they’d still exist as an independent phone/operating system maker if the Microsoft buyout didn’t occur?

$4k doesn’t even buy you a DGX spark these days. You can get a Ryzen AI max 128GB machine for a bit less than $4k but the models you can run on there aren’t even close to Opus 4.8.
