The WFH crowd wishes. Corporations are not logical in this way. They are far more concerned with enforcing their own culture than they are with the expense of their real estate which is, after all, both an investment and a tax write-off.

This is not good enough. People on this website know not to use TikTok. The message should be: tell your friends and family to get off TikTok. Tell them the unvarnished truth: it’s spyware

Those governments and worldwide organizations are perfectly capable and indeed welcome to set up websites to do exactly the same thing.

Why is Twitter a utility? Why is any social media a utility? It is certainly not essential to conduct business or to go about one's daily life.

Why Brave and not DDG browser? Brave left a sour taste for me with their crypto + linkjacking for referrals nonsense.

> if your adversary wants to get your stuff, they will find a way.

This is true, and to add to it: for state level actors, “wanting to get your stuff” expands to passive collection of data as well as well trodden paths to more targeted surveillance. End to end at least throws up a few more barriers.

iCloud backups are encrypted, just not end to end. Which is as good as not encrypted.

Any word on how necessary the app is? Not really comfortable with the direction this technology is going when it has to be paired with an app, with your data sent to who know who.

Interesting to note:

> Variations in medical care among states may also result in differences in cancer rates. In states where higher percentages of people participate in cancer screenings, more cancers are diagnosed early when the prognosis is often better.

It seems like this data could be impacted such that better healthcare would result in worse cancer rate, since this study naturally counts know cancer rates. That is, it would not necessarily result in literally more incidents of cancer, just the rate as measured.

> It seems like this would be good practice these days for any international travel.

This also seems like a great use case for privacy focused OSes for unlocked phones. I’ve been trying to get into CalyxOS or GrapheneOS for a while. Just waiting for either to come to the Pixel 7 Pro. I wouldn’t throw it afterwards, but probably wouldn’t connect it to any home networks without nuking it once or twice.

The uncritical acceptance of Qatar as the next hot business location, like an area of the map unlocking on Civ, is a total catastrophe for the cause of human rights. The entire country should be boycott, not embraced.

>But how is that Apple's responsibility?

"Apple's responsibility" is determined, in countries with consumer protection laws, by that country's authority. In this case, it's Apple responsibility because Brazil says it's good for their consumers. It does stand to reason that having more high quality chargers from Apple is better than having fewer.
