I think almost all programmers realize they work for a business or are building one themselves. Spending time building something and focusing all your time on craft and beauty makes no sense in these situations. So, most folks that want to have an impact and progress their careers don’t focus just on that. When you have enough experience you start working on even higher level problems and don’t focus on the code itself, but more important problems the business needs addressed.

At some point the people criticizing ai art will realize it’s mostly a skills issue that they have the problem with. In the end, they have no issue with the concept itself. So many things that were blocked by people not having the ability to make simple posters or do other take they’re not familiar with are being unblocked. We should be empathetic to these people and not criticize them for using ai art for their garage sale.

There’s nothing stopping Bob Ross from painting and obviously nobody is suggesting him using a robot to paint. I think he’d be clearheaded enough to welcome new forms of creativity, unlike some of his less open minded fans.

Then learn how to be creative and use the ai better?

I guess it’s kind of over for open ai now? We had a bunch of model releases at or around the same time, so we can get a good lay of the land. Surprise, surprise anthropic is still in the lead. Now we have Google and meta with models that are beating OpenAI in many benchmarks. There appear to be some really good cyber capabilities with this model and some other specific benchmark wins. That said, it’s as expensive as fable 5.1. It looks like all the executives that decided to leave may have picked the right time to do so. That said, I can’t wait to try it and see if the problem is we can no longer trust any benchmarks.

It’s sad, but a lot of software folks have decided to become influencers and not pursue expertise. I remember before you’d mostly be reading boring looking blogs to follow experts in the industry. It seems like the mindshare has moved to flashy videos by people that aren’t experts, but are great at communication. Similar to how if you want to watch some diy video on YouTube, you’ll get much better information from a poorly produced snd edited video from someone that knows what they’re talking about vs a well produced and edited video from someone that has no idea what they’re talking about.

Because it took too much time before and now it’s essentially instantaneous and free?

I don’t have a problem with ai generated media in blogs at all. Nobody is going to take the time to hand draw a piece of art for a blog that takes them less than an hour to write. Pictures speak a thousand words and serve as a great intro to a blog post. Embrace the future.

Amazing how this company went from having such goodwill to hardly any. At the end of the day they want to make as much money as possible. Anthropic will have to lose a ton of their profitability if they compete with open source. I see them moving into the application layer, which they’ve already started doing. It’s clear open models are the future for the vast majority of use cases that don’t need frontier capabilities.

Quick read is that this is more capable and cheaper than 5.6sol. Same price for input tokens and $5 cheaper per mil output tokens.

Out of all the things I’d consider to help me improve or be more productive, this has to be at the bottom. I actually used to write notes all throughout college, mostly because I couldn’t afford a laptop and would use the school desktop computers when actually writing code. But, I don’t see any degradation from moving to a workflow where I never physically write anymore.

I also don’t understand his stance on using cursive. Everyone that writes quickly develops their own scribble, which they can easily read and doesn’t involve taking the pen off the paper. What’s the point in relearning proper cursive?

There’s probably some other things that weren’t exactly clear or could be misinterpreted in the post. I don’t see it as worth my time to go back and edit each little thing.

That doesn’t appear to be the case anymore. They just have one set of plans: Allegreto, modereto, etc which apply to both the chat app and the coding apps.

That’s not obvious to me at all. Especially your claim around opus.

This is comparing Fable High with K3 High. I'm mostly using these models for game development. The tasks I usually send are ambiguous visual bugs, changing the look of a scene or models, or adding a large feature. The wording wasn't accurate there. I don't use Fable or K3 most of the time. I'm usually working on smaller scoped tasks that I review myself afterwards.
