The language in the EU or UK agreement must be a lot different than the US agreement. When this was announced last month, I never saw the new subscriber agreement and have not seen ads outside of live TV. Our subscriber agreement was updated yesterday, and says:

---

k. Service Tiers With or Without Ads. We offer different Service Tiers, some with advertisements and some predominantly without. Service Tiers described as "no ads" or "ad-free" are generally free of commercial interruptions, with certain exceptions that may change from time to time, including where: (i) streaming rights or other limitations require certain Content to play with ads; or (ii) ads are served in certain live or linear Content or special events (and replays thereof). Additionally, "no ads" or "ad-free" Service Tiers may contain limited promotional content, such as brief clips about the Bundles (including messages promoting an upgrade thereto) and other content available on any services associated with the Bundles, and branded content, product integrations, or sponsorship messaging.

Please note that if you subscribe to multiple (or a bundle of) Service Tiers, Content from any ad-supported Service Tier will play with ads, while Content from any "no ads" or "ad-free" Service Tier will not (except as described above).

---

So it's not quite as awful as what's reported here. This article is a month old and I haven't seen what it says was going to happen.

Well, one adjustment is that it looks like any high temperature process resulting in a maillard-type reaction can elevate these. So I suppose roasted vegetables are going to have elevated levels as well. Darker crusty breads more than lighter breads, etc. Smoking and coffee are higher risk factors than food, although idk if that's accounting for rate/volume of consumption.

A (very) quick look at this says that the compounds are doing the damage, but the real problem is that some people don't metabolize them as quickly as others, and they build up. These are neurotoxic at higher concentrations and cross the blood-brain barrier, so if you aren't clearing them out then I guess you're exposing your cerebellum to more of them for a longer duration.

Studies suggest that people with ET have higher levels of these beta-carbolines in their blood than control patients, in some cases (like familial tremor) even if their diet and lifestyle doesn't look it should be risk.

Yandex is a search engine like Google is a search engine. Both are also cloud vendors. The chart of traffic from Yandex is showing that the majority of traffic was considered bot traffic, and after Ukraine's attack on its datacenter(s), that traffic has reduced substantially.

It looks like the majority of online bot traffic is coming from cloud vendor networks, which isn't surprising to me. But it makes me think that the "bot share by location" chart is more useful as a "which cloud vendor has bad bot control" chart vs. a "where is bot traffic coming from" chart.

That's just property taxes in a nutshell, though. We periodically see discussions about land value taxes and it's a feature of those as well; proponents shrug and point out that you didn't do anything to earn that extra value so it doesn't belong to you anyway.

I'm not taking a position here other than to say I don't believe there is a universally acceptable tax. Every tax I've ever read about or experienced personally, someone has made a valid argument for why it leads to a bad outcome or is otherwise unfair. You have to decide what gets priority, pick the system that matches that, and then be honest about where you're making tradeoffs and why.

Don't worry! It's actually "Tenderlove Making," going by how the site header is constructed. Definitely a maker/hacker site, and not whatever you were thinking. Hope this allays your concern.

What would you expect instead? I think the US supports the Saudis because they are the primary competitor to Iran in the middle east. But no one (?) in the middle east has great support for women, gays, or infidels.

I think you're right that strategic / economic interests have outweighed cultural issues / human rights.

> There isn't a single mention of nuclear weapons in the Budapest Memorandum.

https://web.archive.org/web/20170312052208/http://www.cfr.or...

Points 4 and 5 mention and are about use of nuclear weapons.

I think the memorandum was intended to be a security guarantee to Ukraine after they (and Belarus, and Kazakhstan) joined the NPT and transferred formerly-Soviet nuclear weapons to the Russian Federation. I don't know why anyone would suggest otherwise.

This is an assumption that since Amazon Sidewalk exists, smart TVs must have something similar. There's no proof, and I think if it were happening without being documented it would be a huge scandal.

Meaningful is subjective, but yes I do. It was very stable for many years, and I do believe the recent issues are mostly or all because they were caught flat-footed by the rapid AI-driven load increases.

This has been a bad time, though. I'm ready to move back to self-hosting if they can't get it together or we move to GHDR and it's still bad.

This is what they've told us. It's represented as basically a separate deployment of the entire GHEC stack, so you're not exposed to the load/scaling issues they believe are the underlying cause of all the github.com outages today.
Comment · 2 months ago
We are in GHEC right now and GitHub Actions is not working. It's been down every time githubstatus.com says it's down.

They have that-ish as an option: https://docs.github.com/en/enterprise-cloud@latest/admin/dat...

I'm told that GitHub has asserted to us that moving to this model means we would not be exposed to github.com outages. It's not at feature parity with github.com though.

This is really, really recent though. The tip-everywhere phenomenon has been growing for a lot longer than the tax deduction.
