My guess is someone published an extension on vscode/cursor claiming to be Anthropic when it wasn't. Kind of like me publishing an app called Youtube on the app store, being accepted by Apple and having people download my malicious app called Youtube.

Not sure I agree with this argument, it's basically saying that it doesn't matter if stuff is badly labelled as people don't care what they're using anyway. fanta can be labelled as coke and coke can be labelled as fanta because the person consuming it doesn't care if they're consuming fanta or coke.

I think in many cases people may not be very AI pilled / be looking at artificial analysis etc and might think "I'm doing this much harder task, let me use the best model" and they may infer from naming that 3.1 Pro is better than the recent flash models which would be incorrect.

Anthropic had an issue with delaying the release of a new Haiku for ages but it didn't really mess with things as it was always the weakest model and so positionally it stayed the same. If however they stopped releasing new Opus models and somehow Haiku started overtaking Opus I think it'd confuse the normie consumer.

The problem is when they stop releasing big models for so long that their small models overtake large ones.

User wise, the average person will see pro and expect it to be better. Where as companies like OpenAI have tended to release across small/mid/large such that the disparity hasn’t been large in terms of a smaller model outperforming their latest mid/large model.

I think it's things like this that are a great argument against soldered ram. Especially with memory shortages.

(Obviously there are other reasons to solder like performance)

Is there no organisation with power to police this? In the UK we have the ICO and if we're not satisfied with the response to a FOIA request we can escalate it to them.

I mean they do also provide US tech companies a lot of revenue (from EU customers).

Countries like China, Russia have largely blocked western tech and as a result domestic technology companies developed to suck up demand. Some things like having a unified capital market would help Europe. This is something they could work to solving, it's more a political question.

That would have a bunch of other consequences, e.g.

"Can you add support for all US timezones". Does it know what the US is?

No one's claiming they don't have a right to their opinion, But just as they have a right to their opinion, I have the right to say it's silly.

I am not claiming that they must stop following their silly ideas. I am just saying they are silly.

There is a respectable way to approach this and this.

The right way is something like, we've been getting spammed with a bunch of PR's from AI that we find difficult to review (because AI allows the average bob who isn't technically minded to make a PR). We have therefore decided not to allow AI submissions.

I think the people who have some moral / ideological issue and bring that into projects kind of feel like clowns to me. I agree with Linus that the point is to make something that people find useful, and obviously you want it to be maintainable.

Saying "it makes you dumber etc" is not related to the project, with all due respect it's non of your fucking business how I learn / retain skills.

"so use vacation days and book a hotel if you have to"

As someone not from America. Damn.., I can't imagine needing to use vacation days for that kind of treatment.

The irony is, each time he doesn't get it. He takes some action that further proves why he shouldn't have it.

In a game theory situation like this, to pace the frontier you want others to aswell. That requires an "enforcer"

That's not the same as auto mode. Automode uses a model to analyse the command an d determine if it's safe. Accept edits allows it to automatically change files, but if it needs to run some bash commands it doesn't work. Obviously dangerously skip (YOLO) is not what I'd want to go for.

I went to Runefest and was told it originally started as a mod/DLC to Dragonwilds
