Sites is so good that it’s changed my workflow - I start in Opus 5.5, have it write a plan to Google Docs in markdown, then have Codex pick up the plan, shave it down, and build the prototype. A little annoying to switch tools, annoying enough to only do this on desktop, but the output is fantastic.

Hey folks, I just wanted to drop a quick note here that there’s a way to stop billing in an emergency that’s officially documented on the Google Cloud documentation site: https://docs.cloud.google.com/billing/docs/how-to/disable-bi... . You can see the big red warning that this could destroy resources that you can’t get back even if you reconnect a billing account, but this is a way to stop things before they get out of control. This billing account disconnect goes all the way to implement a full on “emergency hand brake” that “unplugs the thing from the wall” (or whatever analogy you prefer) without you having to affirmatively do it yourself.

https://docs.cloud.google.com/billing/docs/how-to/modify-pro... and https://docs.cloud.google.com/billing/docs/how-to/budgets-pr... are other documented alternatives to receive billing alerts without the billing account disconnect.

The billing account disconnect obviously shouldn’t be used for any production apps or workloads you’re using to serve your own customers or users, since it could interrupt them without warning, but it’s a great option for internal workloads or test apps or proof of concept explorations.

Hope this helps!

Ah I think I see based on the other comment but just to confirm - you want to use Vertex provided Gemini API endpoints without having to create a Google Cloud project. Is that correct? (I’m just trying to get as precise about the problem statement and what success looks like - that helps me figure out a path to the best solution.)

Appreciate the feedback!

Totally fair. Yes, Google AI Studio [ https://aistudio.google.com ] lets you do this but Google Cloud doesn't at this time. That's super duper irritating, I know.

Good error messages have a template: a UUID, a description, and a suggested solution. This gives folks enough to try to solve it themselves and also enough to Google / grep with.

There is a famous story that the engineers wanted to way back when and Eric Schmidt managed to get them to stop by saying "Oracle is auditable" and all the engineers were like "ugh, government regulations" and that was that

The "non-N95 masks don't protect yourself" was what we thought in March; it's no longer what we think after the Starbucks contact tracing and other studies.

Regular masks absolutely provide substantial - admittedly, not perfect, but substantial - personal protection.

I would love to read a long story on Dave Cutler. I've heard the name but don't know the first thing about him.

https://cloud.ibm.com/catalog/services/api-connect seems to do a lot of this for free. Probably could also use the community version of Mulesoft: https://developer.mulesoft.com/mulesoft-products-and-licensi...
