> Consumer spending is being held up by stock market gains

Wait, really? Is this just a vibes thing, or have you seen data supporting that? It _seems_ fairly unlikely.

Also, seems counterproductive. If you work for proton, you’re probably realistically updating your LinkedIn profile about now.

... I mean, if I were Zuckerberg, I'd be waiting to see what happens on Tuesday.

Musk, granted, is probably beyond the point of no return in association with the Trump cult, but if there's a wave election one assumes that Big Tech will be scrambling to distance themselves from Trump.

This would be roughly equivalent to 5,000 of them catching fire at once, scaled for the number which exist, so, yeah, might draw some comment.

This is the second one of these to have blown up. It looks like about 200 exist. It is _notable_ that 1% of the entire installed base has caught fire.

I'm _amazed_ they didn't change that after WW2.

Very cool, and very Soviet.

> Having criticised the hit movie in the summer, the tycoon said he would use Grok Imagine to make a “historically accurate” adaptation.

So Helen of Troy will be a nightmarish half-swan?

(Canonically, she _hatched out of an egg_!)

US safety standards are _different_. Car standards are particularly messy in that a car that's road-legal in the EU probably isn't in the US and vice versa. Mostly small stuff; for instance they'll have different side mirrors.

Producing a version of these cars for US standards likely would not be difficult (every car manufacturer has to deal with about four standards regimes); it's just that they're no reason to do so currently.

I’ve got a 32” 4k monitor at work, and a 27” 5k at home (the rather problematic LG one; got it just as it was being taken off the market in Europe over emissions rules). The 27” is so much nicer.

I think they at least used to be literally the same panels (though potentially a downrated version with higher dead pixel tolerance etc)

They are, in fairness, quite nice monitors.

> but it must be a good case of the sunken cost fallacy by now, given how long it's taken to build

No, for nuclear plants generally sunk cost is not a fallacy :) Most of the cost for a nuclear plant is upfront, so once you've spent that you may as well use it.

Generally the fix is to either have the inverter shut down if the grid fails, or automatically isolate the premises if the grid fails.
