HDMI+SDXC+magsafe built-in is more practical than a fourth generic port and fishing around in your laptop bag for dongles.

Theoretically more versatile, but high-quality SDXC and HDMI built-in is much more practical than a 4th(!) Thunderbolt 5 port.

Also MagSafe, which the 2019 didn’t have.

Can you use the touchscreen for the "run iPhone and iPad apps" feature of Apple Silicon Macs?

And if so, has Apple changed the policy from developer opt-in to automatic on touchscreen Macs.

Better display, more ports.

Also, there is no M6 Air yet.

Seems like they made their decision when they acquired Pixelmator.

Exchange rate is also a factor.

The iPad mini hasn’t been the budget iPad for quite a few years now. It is more like a small iPad Air now.

All true.

Also jersey patch sponsor and a sponsored mention during the pre-game.

Java 8 (early 2014) is where Java got interesting again. Lambdas and streams fundamentally changed the language. java.time was a very big deal too.

Can this new Siri handle TV-specific questions?

Play the next unwatched episode of X. What is new this week? (across all the services I'm subscribed to) What service is show X on? (localized to my country) When will the next season of X be released?

I'd pay for that (grudgingly, given the big hike). Otherwise don't see much reason to replace my 2021 model.

iPad OS still has a zillion failure modes for the elderly. Long press, split screen and the other multitasking paradigms, multi-finger gestures, touch id, background audio from some tab in Safari... there's just no end of features that can throw them off. And it isn't multi-user.

Not sure if HomeView is the answer, but some aspects of the video were interesting. eg super-fast user switching with no explicit login; and how it puts Siri forward as the primary UI in a way that the iPad doesn't, even if the iPad technically has the same capabilities.

That they drilled a hole through the kitchen island table top for the power cord was hilarious. Exactly zero people in the real world are going to do that.

I started using Perl in 1996.

But the very first CGI scripts I wrote were in C, late 95 or early 96. Apache on Slackware Linux.

Sure, but there wasn’t that much of a difference between the 030 and 020.

Falcon and 1200 had the same form factor. They are the final 80s-style home computer for their respective brands.

More comparable to the Amiga 1200, I think.

The Mac has had the ability to run iPad apps for quite a few years now, since Apple Silicon. Unfortunately it is opt-in for developers and most don't. I wonder if it will become non-optional (or at least opt-out) with the touchscreen MBP rumoured for this fall.

I think that's the unification route they are most likely to take, hopefully along with a thinner/smaller MacBook design and built-in cellular.

They've taken so many swings at the iPad Pro (both hardware and software), and it has never been as good as the MacBook.
