Lotta "Europe could never build this!" points in here, missing that Telesat (Canadian) is already building this, planning to launch in Q1 2028, and will happily sell to Europe.

You linked to a Snopes article from 2023 to rebut claims about something that happened in 2026...

Derek's blog is a delight, probably the best thing in my RSS reader. I'd recommend reading more posts, it's a charming slice of life from near Tokyo.

Very very happy to see this!

I was lucky to work with Till+Jason on CoScreen (I came in late); they're really exceptional people and CoScreen had a great collaboration UX that still hasn't been matched by Zoom and friends. Really keen to see what they'll be able to build this time around.

Good post, and I agree with it.

I've been preferring Bluesky lately. It's much more open so you can write your own feeds to consume it however you like. I currently have one that runs every post in my following feed through a cheap LLM filter to throw out ragebait and topics I don't care about. It requires some initial work to curate your experience (including blocking some annoying people) but after that it's good.

You, and many other people in this industry, are cooking your brain on a website owned by a literal white supremacist, and you think you're too smart (or whatever the opposite of "fragile minded" is) for it to happen.

Where you spend time shapes your thoughts, whether you like it or not.

It does not guarantee accuracy, but it helps a lot in my experience; I find that models tend to hallucinate a lot more about things that aren't in their context window.

They are still in lots of cities outside Toronto.

Awful headline and I doubt it's what the author would have chosen, given that her comments are much more to do with supply:

> “In San Francisco, demand is reflected in increased prices,” she says. “In Charlotte, demand is reflected in increased quantities.”

> “A big takeaway is that cities are in control of a big portion of their supply sensitivity,” Gorback says. “It’s cities that control zoning. It’s cities that control permitting. The real keeper of the keys are the municipalities.”

Externalities were a very big part of my first-year microeconomics course circa 2008, FWIW.

Yes, Package Identity was the bane of my existence for a while. It's wild how MS gated important APIs behind it and then made it so difficult+impractical to work with (I honestly think this is a large part of why WinRT was mostly ignored by developers).

I've moved on, but this looks like it will at least fix some of the paper cuts.
