FTFY: At the time noone was buying windows because they pirated it.

IE was not really free. You still had to buy Windows.

Interesting and the illustrations help but still very dense with jargon. Right from the start "autocrystal is an extreme point of the body of window statistics"...what?

Probably only intended for mathematicians.

Classical physicists had conceptual difficulty when something stopped behaving as "body" even macroscopically. For example when they tried to determine coefficient of friction of pure coper, throughly cleaned, in vacuum to prevent any oxidation, the surfaces cold-welded together. The copper did not get the memo that it is supposed to be two physical bodies.

The index problem is interesting, maybe indexes should be updated synchronously at DELETE time? Guess there's architectural reason why postgres can't do that. I'd try to do it manually, by adding "deleted" column to both table and index whether it's performant(edit: that copies whole row so not likely).

Reading the replies...basically all kinds of learned helplessness :(

I respectfully but firmly disagree that having buffer length information available for a pointer is "extraneous".

I see, checking buffer boundaries for heap allocated pointers is very exotic usecase in C. /s

My biggest bewilderment with C is that malloc has to store the buffer size otherwise free could not work...but nobody in decades thought to make this information accessible to the programmer! If you want to keep track of buffer bounds in C, you have to do it artisanally. Despite it's, in most implementations, stored right there next to the data and thus in L1 cache already.

You might like recent Numberphile videos on youtube about noble polyhedra that were figured out by 17 year old. There's an interview with him too where you can see what is the person like.

So what if few people started to "misperceive themselves" as ADHD? Why it's considered a reason for panic?

The increased awareness genuinely helps to many others. I suspect there's widespread denial do be untangled, too.

Hard to get sincerely engaged when the genuine achievement is surrounded by insanity like mars colonization or gigawatt datacenters in orbit, both in a decade. Oh and I even saw spacex touted as anti-DEI success story...

zswap is back in kernel?

Edit: seems I got confused there, only frontswap layer was removed, and zcache

Use zram instead. This from crappy 8G RAM multimedia/browsing minipc I'm on right now. The SSD is quite slow and browser is memory hungry so it was an improvement from on disk swap.

    $ zramctl
    NAME ALGORITHM DISKSIZE DATA COMPR TOTAL STREAMS MOUNTPOINT
    /dev/zram0 zstd            3G 482.9M 86.7M 91.8M       4 [SWAP]
