“Show me the incentive and I’ll show you the outcome.”

I can’t fathom this kind of thinking. It’s not a case of having to choose between the lesser of evils, it’s a case of having some principles and making decisions based on them.

You can say no.

Indeed! The pipe wrench attack, employed since valuable things existed!

You can be the multi yourself. Choose diverse hardware (ie, not all the same Ledger) and your likelihood of compromise changes significantly in your favor.

Sure, loss of seed material would be catastrophic so have a backup scheme. The point isn’t that you can make it perfect, but there’s laughably risky and imperfect solutions and putting everything on a single key HW device like this is the poster child.

Keys don’t have to be a SPoF though. Multi-signature schemes are the baseline for security today.

If that does become possible then the market will naturally establish efficiency again and the opportunity will disappear.

What makes you think that a clock-timing analogy even applies to brains doing work?

Just give yourself time and you’ll be the target customer then!

I suspect the author still misunderstands the SVP. If I were the SVP of engineering saying this to someone, especially someone who is in a non-core engineering role like product, I probably recognize that they have a tendency to verbally spew and I want them to focus on the risk mitigation and response plan. I’ve already talked to my engineering leader because they informed me immediately, and I’ve already read the incident details.

But also the post reads like it comes from an inexperienced/immature service org, so maybe they’re just sorting their operational response process out.

At one point all of this seemed like common knowledge in software because Carmack, Abrash and Hecker (among many others) were working in the open on games and discovery. Kind of funny that someone had to reinvent from first principles!

And that perspective presumes that being loved isn’t a fundamental human need.

Then call them what they are - lies.

I just ran into a situation where I had two Claude instances working in the same repo on two different, independent issues. I noticed the sessions were thrashing a bit on which branch they were on because each was taking control from the other session. That’s when it hit me why I need worktrees.

Yes and no. I have been on the inside and watched as a very senior but non-C-suite, one who works with the officers and next in line for C. Cultures reinforce themselves in groups of people and so yes you see all the narcissism and sociopathy in action but the limits and what’s acceptable differ. Not all companies behave like Meta on the inside.

I don’t understand your confusion? Canada is standing up to bullying tactics from a corrupt administration. Yes, please, more.

And if the world would continue to stand up for themselves in the future we might have more balanced relationships.
