I have just one app I published way back in 2014 or so, and I think there were only 2 updates (only counting changes that required uploading new builds) since then that were like "do this or we're taking the app down".

One of them was requiring a privacy policy, even for a fully offline game that doesn't even have the internet permission. The other one was having to update the target platform version if I remember correctly.

China is facing many of the same problems that the rest of the world is, with demographic decline, slowing growth, etc.

I don't just mean software engineers, more like entire companies.

Their demos are getting awfully close to the point where all the things just run themselves. It's only by choice that they didn't demo it that way.

I wonder at what point they'll have to answer the inevitable question: "why does the agent even need me anymore"?

Tapo C125 has a built-in physical shutter. Also, every PTZ camera can just turn to face the wall, that would maybe defeat this too (not sure).

For the typical indoor WiFi cameras without battery backup, a simple way to detect them could be to turn all breakers off and on, and listen for their motors rotating on startup. Or make the room dark and listen for the click of the IR cut filter switching to night mode or back.

Flashy features often seem more targeted at tech reviewers and impressive demos than actual day-to-day use. Like movies having some scenes purely because they look good in a trailer.

On the other hand, it's also much less effort to do at least some rudimentary review.

Or make a fork with only the minimim set of parts that your agent cherry picks.

Maybe that's because back then it just didn't affect enough people at the same time.

They weren't too big to fail.

With regards to b), what is the evidence that they actually deliver on this promise?

Yeah, that's just a copium answer from people who simply want to hand wave away the issue instead of admitting they have no good answers.

Like a politician who's asked about this in a town hall, but thinks that "our plan is to do absolutely nothing" doesn't sound very appealing.

If that's how you feel, maybe the applications you're making are too simple to need any of your unique contribution.

The answer could be to just push further, and try solving harder problems.

This depends entirely on your local laws and the kinds of loans banks offer.

In most places, you can only get recourse mortgages. You will be liable for the rest of the mortgage, if the value of the house drops so much that selling it doesn't cover the remaining debt.

House values dropping a lot is something that happens fairly rarely, but it tends to happen exactly during the times when you are most likely to be unable to pay your mortgage (recessions, industry downturns, etc.)
