Sure, and in the meantime, we become less efficient at doing legitimately useful tasks and more efficient at making rent seeking slop that collects money for the upper classes. The real fix is get rid of the 90% slop tech and put that to better use (including more efficient use of hardware)

1. Make shit inefficient software for basic tasks

2. Say it's infeasible to have enough compute locally to do basic tasks

3. Force usage of centrally controlled, subscription-based cloud software.

4. Capitalism win???!

It's even more hilarious because all along there has been this complaint, and then people have been like "no no who cares, features are important, dev time is important, just ship ship ship". And now memory is unaffordable and it takes 1GB RAM to display a plaintext file

This is exactly what I have and it doesn't work well

Ok so what is the correct way to tell it "I don't care what is happening, you must uphold these rules at all times"? If it's not any configuration of .md files?

Yeah checks out with my anecdotal experience with Claude. It is pretty great at following instructions - for about 10 minutes, after which it seems to ignore things I told it before.

I have quite explicit and strong instructions (e.g. don't write massive comments, use existing functionality, etc.) in CLAUDE.md files which seem to get bypassed surprisingly quickly when doing real tasks. Yet if I tell it these things in a prompt during the task, it performs way better.

Result is I'm trying to resist adding more and more things to CLAUDE.md files which in some scenarios it does well but in other scenarios totally ignores and messes up.

Maybe we can keep going to a point where it's so ridiculous that people realise the financial markets are the useless money laundering loop that they actually are

I have learnt that very few in tech hold themselves to a complex moral standard. Most seem to have an attitude like "well company X is offering money, why not take it?" Some seem to genuinely believe large money = large societal value no matter what the job is. Quite blasé and pretty sad.

You can make adjustments on a guitar to make a note flatter by pushing the neck/headstock forward, relaxing the strings slightly

They just know their constitutional rights as law abiding american citizens to die from easily preventable illness they can't afford treatment for!

When someone wants a huge backyard to do nothing with it: valid desire

When I want a commute to work/family/friends that isn't 2 hours: invalid desire

Hmmm
