I suspect what will happen is that the relative value of fixing 100 year old construction will decrease. Sure you can hire someone for 20k to fix the broken plumbing in your house or you can get a new one for 30k that also has the windows, kitchen, electrical and insulation fixed.

Trust is a funny thing. 2 years ago yes the ai needed supervision 99.8% of the time. Conversely if you've ever tried to work with / lead humans they also need supervision. The ai is starting to flirt with the line where its supervision effort is lower than human supervision effort. Like sure, it might do dumb stuff, but so do people.

Also: rent cost money, keeping track of stuff cost time and money. By all means keep it if you need it, but on some scale you can afford to re buy the new cable that you threw out from the savings of not dealing with clutter.

Oh dear - this explains why people have bad experience with ai. The prompts in the game are terrible.

The user was providing no context, they had no ability to give the model background or context. A simple why would have prevented 95% of these side quests. “Im trying to increase the relative visibility of the add to cart action on the page. Can we please change it to blue without changing any other buttons. /effort low. Let me know if you have questions and before editing anything tell me what you are going to do”

Felt like a case of controlling what is visible to avoid some unconscious fear.

The relative tradeoffs (hacking together monitors, sketchy battery power, etc) don't seem to coherently add up to the stated goals.

Interesting read tho.

I work on a C++ codebase. I frequently prototype in c and then have the ai model slopify it back to c++. Nice b/c I am faster at reading c, but hard b/c you miss some of the features/nuances of c++.

Don't spend too much time online. The collective conscious of online can be disconnected from reality. People who aren't successful tend to spend their time complaining online whereas you rarely hear stories of normal people success online.

Focus on meeting real people and understanding their problems and how you can help. Your connections during college will probably matter more than a particular test score.

Get a job (any job) during college, it shows you're employable and can navigate with the unpleasantries of being employed.

Oh! And dont’ stress too much! Enjoy the ride. Think of it all like a fun new video game. Take in the new levels with curiosity. Have fun! Many people who have jobs now would love to be in your shoes again. Embrace it, enjoy that time of life!

Being able to submit an issue, description, test criteria along with a token budget would be pretty cool.

Your communication with stakeholders about your work ends up having more of an impact than your rate of work output.

The sneaky thing you don't realize when you’re 20 is that you come to be interested in what you work on. So if you just try and do what you do well, it will become interesting!

Was a specific piece of functionality intentional or an unintended byproduct of a previous change? Did someone else remove something but forget to take this out, or is it important? Etc

I think this is where one of the biggest gains in productivity from AI will come from. Even if it levels off at current levels of “intelligence” a 30% reduction in team size will save alot of communication overhead.

We think of productivity as linear to the number of employees, but it’s more of Log(N) for knowledge work because of the communication overhead. If your AI spend and employee productivity improvement ends up being proportional to headcount thats a linear gain that used to be Log(N).

Funny enough! There is a donation/disposal bin for bear-spray at BZN (the primary airport you fly to visit yellowstone).
