I suffer using it because many people jumped ship from Craigslist to Facebook Marketplace.

Good deals and things can still certainly be found on Craigslist, and there seems to have been a rebound lately in use, but for a while there all that was left on Craigslist was old timers and resellers.

This reminded me of my first encounter with Thicknet (and thinnet) just a few years ago.

We'd never gone over it when I went to college in 2012 but come 2022, I found myself learning about it by pulling it out of the ceiling during a decluttering project.

Made some sense, though. Being a TV station, coaxial cable was probably very plentiful when it was installed. We saved a couple of the vampire clamps at the time just for laughs. I wonder if they're still in the office.

That and Hexxus in FernGully were my first introductions to him. I knew his voice long before his name or face.

It's actually funny you mentioned the lack of indicating call sign or operating location. I saw something similar done on purpose.

I worked at WCCO in Minneapolis briefly a few years ago. Right around that time, CBS corporate was attempting to standardize all their stations and associated websites. In their mind, that meant making everything "CBS News [Location]" and stripping just about everything else from the public marketing.

WCCO, KPIX in Los Angeles, and a few other stations battled back about this because the local name recognition of the call sign was stronger than CBS would be by itself.

So now, when you bop around the "Local News" section of the CBS Website, some cities have logos with the call letters, and some do not.

In short, when you see a station that that's difficult to identify, try finding out who owns it. Very often the ownership is to blame for one reason or another.

For me, I never really stopped collecting physical media, particularly CDs. I've been pleasantly surprised to see it make a comeback. I've started collecting cassettes now, too, because I own a couple vehicles old enough that the stock radio has a cassette player.

Not to nitpick, but your note about Motocross Maniacs on the North American timeline should be updated.

It is correct that it's Konami's first GB title, but that only applies in Japan. In the US, Castlevania: The Adventure technically releases first with Motocross Maniacs releasing afterward.

You have this correct on the Japanese timeline.

I worked for 10 years in broadcast, as a director, IT support, and an Engineer.

I love picking errors out of any broadcast, especially with what I know now.

Seeing things like this and other documented cases of broadcast errors always make me happy because I know how hard it is sometimes to be in that line of work and how easy it is to just make little blips here and there.

Making errors is how I learned to never get between older people and their midday TV dramas. They absolutely know how to get a hold of you if they miss a few minutes of Young and Restless!

I should revisit modding my iPods. Between my roommate and I we have 3-4 Classics of a couple different gens. A couple need new batteries, but at least one has a failed hard drive.

Created an HN account just to ask... what are the entry ways to know what sets are going on in Minneapolis? The person you replied to mentioned Drop Bass Network and Chicago Redline, both of which have easily follow-able accounts. Anything like that in this area?
