Haiku has been in beta for twenty years.

Haiku still doesn't boot on many modern systems.

Haiku can use all the help it can get.

I have been supporting Haiku financially for years, but sadly, it won't boot natively on any of my computers :(

I really need to dedicate some time to understand why. I'd love to contribute with apps and drivers.

Sorry, I couldn't parse the obviously AI written README. If the author can't be bothered writing it, I can't be bothered reading it.

Maybe the bots will appreciate it more, after all, it seems to be written for them.

Sigh. Once again computers have been shown to do better something than I can, for a task where ostensibly the inverse should hold true.

Well they're clearly market leaders being that far ahead of the competition. Maybe that's why.

I'm sure one of the 60,000 employees who have been told they're welcome not to work there anymore, because the line must go up infinitely, will be chomping at the bit to do so.

Because it isn't got specifically, it is anything that uses the installation of OpenSSL provided by Apple as part of macOS (at least is my understanding).

You weren't on the Azure ML team by any chance were you? :D

I get it regularly today, especially in applications like Teams. I can type sufficiently quickly that it isn't uncommon for characters to buffer, and for the cumulative effect of the latency ti be that my sentence finishes displaying 2-3 seconds after I finish typing it.

We elected to take some of the hardest problems in computing - networking, distributed systems, parallel and concurrent programming - and make them the defacto standard for a Tasks app.

Now it just auto updates right in the middle of a task.

It is absolutely one of the reasons I have moved to TUIs. That, combined with better implementation of keyboard shortcuts, makes TUI software feel considerably faster to me compared to many modern GUI apps.

Although I fired up Solaris 9 on an old Sun Blade a few months ago, and the GUI latency on that was imperceptible.

The slow context menu has been an issue for me even on fresh installs of W11. YMMV.

Some aspects have definitely gotten worse. For example, the latency between pressing a key and a glyph appearing on the screen.

Thanks for sharing your experience. What you have written resonated deeply with my experience across a range of large companies.

Ironically, every large company I have worked for has chosen Microsoft partially because of their size and a perception that they have an enormous amount of top talent developing best-in-class products.

My reaction to that has been that, if a company is so large, then they can't all be in the top percentiles of talent. And when you look at how many products they have, relative to the number of software engineers they have, their can't be that many software engineers dedicated to any given product.

So I'm curious: how many people would work on a typical Microsoft product, and what sort of calibre are they?
