Once you get past that, it's on to the auth walls where you have to login every day or week. We have perfect the nagging modals to suit all anti-consumer patterns.

This is the internet in 2026 and it sure as hell won't get any better.

Kinda disappointing that this doesn't get daily attention on HN of all places.

> techfolk who write fiction set up their writing pipelines

And perhaps infinitely procrastinating on the actual writing itself...

We're now building some of the same superiority complex into commercial AIs to effectively refuse any wrongspeak.

Jev is still extremely useful for its intended purpose, not the mildly interesting hype on social media.

Unless scale or resources are a concern, I see absolutely no reason to use anything else for CRUD apps. I sure as hell won't be writing any `sql` statements in nextjs anytime soon.

> a person who does not use it

He still runs a company with several services written in Rails with no obvious migration plans. AI psychosis and Linux side quests haven't, so far, changd that.

Is it? I thought I read somewhere that it was one of the most token-efficient ones. Also, Rails + LLMs is magic and speed (of development).

> Can someone explain to me how you "acquire" an open-source project?

You corrupt the hearts of core maintainers with truckloads of cash, then get them to stop working on it (and instead on something else) and to effectively kill the brand.

Of course the code is free for anyone to pick up & work on, but setting up new infra & finding new people is costly in both time and money.

> There used to be a time sites got punished if they treated searchbots differently..

Google is itself deep in the darkpatternmaxxing game now as well.

> There are entirely factual ways to describe January 6th, 2021.

That's the thing. People can't even agree on facts, even if they're obvious to an outside observer.

I had it write some code the other day, boy was it awful-looking compared to 5.6. Worked perfectly, but ugly nonetheless.

Ubuntu tried that at some point, but it never took off as a mobile OS.

I do this as well, and I hope Google never takes away the ability to look back in time.

HF is meant to be a single point of control. AI models and Linux distros aren't usually for normies, so distribution via torrents would make sense, especially to save the provider some bandwidth. Ubuntu has been offering torrent downloads for ages. No mention of torrents on HF. I believe most downloads will soon be account/EULA-walled.
