At last a post about computing that appeals to me. Low powered and energy efficient computing.
I’ve actually been wondering if it could be possible to design a small computer that powered off in between key presses (paired with an e-ink screen.) If the CPU state could be stored and reloaded in between key presses. I was mainly thinking about turn based games on an e-ink device, but I guess it could be suited to anything event driven that triggered the next set of CPU cycles to perform some work before a “sleep” instruction put the computer back into hibernation.
I did search online to see if anyone was thinking about something similar and there was a paper “Design of a nonvolatile-register-embedded RISC-V CPU with software-controlled data-retention and hardware-acceleration functions” which looked interesting.

The thing that caught my eye immediately was the sandboxing. I have no idea why Node and npm don’t have sandboxing by default. It would greatly help with some of these worms and supply chain attacks.

Of the many cool things I liked about this, removing the missile from the array by swapping it with the last missile and decrementing the missile count was a nice trick.

I remember being idealistic when I first started. Now I’m just jaded and cynical. Don’t try looking for meaning in any of it, you won’t find any. The system just churns along. And everyone with it. Play the game and nod along. Your job doesn’t define who you are. Just be thankful because you could be in a worse situation.

I’m glad it’s not just me. These LED headlights are terrible and dazzle me all the time. It’s especially bad with SUVs that have lights right in your eyeline, when you’re driving a “normal” car.

They’re probably still quite useful for displaying tabular data - there’s also semantics involved, it’s not primarily just a layout mechanism.
