I was actually pretty hyped for her at first, and she seemed to be doing a good job. It was only with time that I saw that she actually couldn't seem to hire good leaders, at all, and that she seemed to disdain the parts of the business that actually made money.

On the other hand - she did a great job at marketing herself. I wouldn't even call her trajectory "failing upwards", she made her moves intentionally and did it well. Fuck the rest of us though, I guess.

Man, what a sad end for Instacart. The leadership team that took over in 2021 absolutely squandered the amazing machine the founders had built, filling the top spots with cronies and sycophants, none of whom had very much interest in the actual core offering of Delivering Groceries. They brought Facebook-lite management and drove out the actual product and business acumen.

By the time the CEO bailed to OpenAI, the damage was done - billions of dollars of opportunity, totally wasted. She left an organization gripped with paralysis, apparently too broken to fix and remain independent.

I think the discount is the risk of the deal not closing; there will be regulatory approvals, financing, all sorts of offramps ahead.

Also, the market has consistently undervalued Instacart since they went public to begin with, so why stop now? (signed, a not-at-all-bitter former employee)

Surely you mean $1m per project and not per board, and projects are at a large scale?

It means that Hex and their suppliers are themselves not in contravention of the MSA, and that they promise they are diligent in screening for compliant labor practices.

For a SaaS, it's more or less just compliance-flavored magic words.

I used to make hardware products and it was very hard to sell in to bigger UK and Australian businesses until we could certify here.

Oof, that hit me right in the nostalgia - I grew up with that style of Macintosh UI and miss it quite a lot.

(and also, how cool is it that we can run whole computers in our web browsers, just like that!)

As if the transatlantic slave trade wasn't a thing. What a perfect illustration of our industry's self-absorption and self-regard.

Low risk of lockout, but about as high-severity as one can imagine. Yes in theory sites should offer a password fallback, but how many actually do? And of those that attempt it, how many get it right?

Not even Google reliably lets you fall back to a password, according to the comments in this article. Losing access to your google is anywhere from major inconvenience to professional disaster.

Expecting every user (site using passkeys) to implement complicated flows is a time-tested recipe for disaster, and it's a bummer to see that unfolding yet again with passkeys.

Hell yeah, I loved beanshell! We used to use it in Android development to give our apps a debug repl, telnet-style. It was so nice, if antiquated even back then. Excited to see this worthy project continue.

Not since the venerable Joe McCarthy has America taken this threat with the seriousness it merits. I can only count the days until we get a proper House Antifa Terrorism and Extremism committee.

NSA, if you're reading, please relay this to Mike Johnson post-haste. America is so close to being great again!

96.5% accuracy at 85 WPM. Would've been better except that they had _one_ space after periods and I'm still used to two - the UI didn't really indicate it very well for me.

Full stops should mean something dammit! (/s)

Just like you can recognize Hemingway's prose voice from a few sentences. After dozens-to-hundreds of hours with Claude, you can tell.
