There's always enterprise wheeling and dealing to keep something discounted, but enterprises are absolutely paying API prices for tokens. For AI coding a least, the issue is more about attributing tokens to a real backlog (no leeching tokens for side projects) and keeping things from running away, both of which all the major AI coding platforms offer solutions for.

I won’t repeat the numerous political blog posts he’s constantly posting these days for a so-called “tech only” guy.

Instead I’ll say that he’s currently doing a big podcast tour where he explicitly whines about how his employees pushed him to (he elides this part) remove a “funny list of customer names” on the grounds of said list being racially charged. And since he was “bullied” into doing that, he’s been on a tear lately declaring tech to be filled to the brim with political lunatics who just want to inject politics into everything. The precise thing that he’s still doing, years later.

This quote certainly comes to mind:

Housework is not situated outside of economic production. It is simply non-salaried and paid through the husband’s salary.

They do that because they have capacity previously reserved for past efforts now shuttered. Don’t count on it being the norm for the long run.

I think IDEs took off plenty well, but several got frozen in time.

Visual Studio as the IDE for building windows client apps, especially WinForms, was and still is a genuinely incredible and productive experience. The ease of which you could click-and-drag a UI, context switch to logic in the code behind the forms, wire up a web service backend, share domain models and have navigation and search tools understand all of it was great. And the TFS integration was quite good too. You really only had to leave VS to do database work or administer some IIS pools.

Unfortunately, it couldn't keep up with the rest of the dev world. "Server Explorer" morphed to include your Azure VMs but froze for 30s each time you opened it. Docker tools came in super late, most Azure services didn't really have a VS tooling experience. The "right click publish" workflow meant for small systems never figured out how to graduate to real-world needs across many teams. Developers had to learn how to use many other tools for modern stuff, and so VS became far less of a center of gravity, often to their annoyance.

His opinion that their behavior is undesirable and should be dealt with is common.

His comparison to them as wolf-like predators (and you shoot wolves), previous posts about mass deportation and forced remigration ... no, most Europeans aren't veering strongly into hard-right territory.

I don't understand when people say that comparable Chinese AI models cost less to use. Kimi K3 costs more than GPT 5.6 Terra.

Not this much for what it provides.

This is an incredible amount of code for what it offers. I don't think this was intentionally designed at all.

I don't see a reason to use something that is, at best, about as good as models that are produced by labs who don't have a reputation of cheating.

My trust factor is gone with Meta right now. Has there been any independent analysis to confirm they didn't cheat on benchmarks again?

Truth also has a "left-leaning bias".

> On cities, I guess my point is that I didn't have to seek out new experiences.

Neither have I. Literally just wandering around. The one exception specifically was Prague's Old Town district having several of the same tourist trap shops. But all you have to do is walk around a minute outside of the most touristy area of Old Town and it's all gone. Not to mention all the awesome, different cafes and shops along other landmarks.

Yeah that's the wrong takeaway you have :)
