The 360 remains my favorite M$ console to date. The indie game store was a wild place with some real hidden gems, the controller is still good, and it had the last good iteration of Geometry Wars

You can use spider egg sacs but it seems directly from the spider is more efficient since you don't have to wait for them to make the sac

As someone who spent a lot of time answering and moderating (not full-on moderating, but editing, voting, reviewing first questions, etc) in the WordPress SE, it was jarring sometimes to see the attitudes that the real mods brought in.

However, when you spend an hour looking at low-quality answers, questions that have he's been asked like ten times already, etc, I get the sense that the people doing the moderating were trying their best - some of them, at least. No doubt there are mods there who just enjoy the miniature lower trip a la overzealous reddit mods, and I can't imagine the stress of trying to handle the amount of traffic some of the exchanges got.

How does increasing the retirement age help? Genuinely curious

Do you have that posted anywhere? I'd love to peek at it

I haven't been around HN toooo long, this is the first time anything posted here has brought a tear to my eye. That's very sweet, and I'll be throwing a little rebeccapurple in to projects from here on out.

I can take a brief look at the social damage meta has done and say that, to me, none of those contributions are worth the pain that they have caused.

From the messed up self-image issues they instill on children to the hand they played - either intentionally or through pure ignorance - in ethnic cleansing, I couldn't care less about what they've done in the tech space when those commits are signed in blood.

I can't reply to your original comment about how heads bounce, I will say that I had a friend on a bike late at night who got t-boned by a sedan. Her face went right into the hood of the car and the aluminum gave way and dented.

Her injuries were bad but not nearly as bad as they'd have been if the surface had just remained completely flat.

How do you know that it's hollow?

Beyond that, the second half of my first paragraph was about how some of those people probably become more than just acquaintances.

I think the cool thing about this, especially as an older person (40's), is that it creates a low-stress, high-interactivity scenario. So while some of the people may just be acquaintances that come to one or two potlucks, some will inevitably click and become more than just once a month dinner guests.

Forming friendships after schooling isn't hard, but it takes work. That said, I've had a good number of small social interactions that usually don't even lead to an acquaintance over the last decade, and even those feel good just to get out of my shell. Then there's the people I'd recognize if I saw them again and maybe remember their names. And a small but close group of about 12 and counting have become incredibly close friends that have recently begun mingling with my prior set of really close friends (different states, so we have a couple yearly gatherings).

I forget what this is called in medicine but someone linked about this on HN before. What I remember is this idea that there are so many things _that are wrong with all of us_, at any given time, that calling attention to and treating all of them would be more harmful than helpful. I think bodies being perfectly healthy is probably not how it works, it's more so that all the "bad" happening never rises to an emergent level.

I dunno, we've been using pnpm for years now without issue, and it's been faster and a little more secure to boot!

I don't know enough about Angular 2 to know exactly how much of a bad choice that was, but my experience in React has always been "they should have used something else". I vaguely recall our lead backend being unhappy with his decision to do the original admin panel in Angular, but I chalked that up to him not being a frontender.

For context: I begrudgingly adopted Vue a while ago after finding React to be too unwieldy, and part of that opinion is definitely related to a poorly written Redux implementation.

I don't care much on the politics of it all because I do think a lot of it is silly, especially with how profit-motivated companies will still find a way to profit.

I will say I've had a number of Hue bulbs starting back in about 2018 and have yet to lose one except for a surge that got an unprotected strip. Otherwise, plenty of white and color bulbs have worked steadfast for nearly a decade while costing a fraction in energy. That said, I do miss the warmth of incandescent lighting, but I don't miss replacing bulbs multiple times a year
