I don't doubt there will be a big crash at some point, but I actually doubt we've reached that point yet. So far stock increases have been driven by earning increases, not speculation. I know an "earnings bubble" can be a thing, but given how useful I know these models to be, and how few use them in the way they can be, I think we have far to go still.

Trust me I know, I co-founded a robotics startup, and robotics is HARD. But now it's becoming a hardware problem, the software will sort itself out soon, it's not a bottle neck that will keep us safe for long.

Abou sycophancy, I sense that it's much lower now with Opus 5.5. Yesterday I had to argue my viewpoint for quite a bit before it relented, on an issue I'm pretty sure I'm broadly correct. It's becoming a better sparring partner that actually pushes back and raises counter-arguments.

Wow, is this Hacker News? Where have you been? Last night I had two agents up autonomously developing and training deep learning models much faster and better than I ever could as a professional. Seems the reddit bubble of "AI doesn't work but also it's somehow evil" has taken over this place as well.

Ok, but go through the bottle necks you face. How many of then will 1. go away with better models, and 2. go away when those bottle necks (other people) are automated away? For me, I can go quite fast because I work alone, no other people in a team to slow me down, but verifying the result is still a bottle neck. Also interacting with government agencies, my accountant etc, still a bottle neck. None of these are technically insurmountable, and I suspect that when one of these becomes a real bottle neck for the entire economy, they will be fixed.

It's not a right, but I think discrimination in the use of AI is a big problem when without AI you are completely unable to compete in the future. If for whatever reason both OpenAI and Anthropic decides to ban you, and open source hasn't caught up, you are at a severe disadvantage compared to others.

You may be joking but there are plenty of people in this thread that basically believe this

My kid very much enjoys building things with claude. Things he could never have built without it. He learns a lot about technology as he does this. What right do you have (or Anthropic) to take that away from him? Because of vibes? You could have easily banned everything from TV to PCs and video games completely with this kind of attitude.

Why would vibe coding be harmful? Nobody can know that. That's like saying compilers are harmful for kids in the 90s, they have to learn assembly or NOTHING.

Seems like a terrible thing to cut off young creators who use this technology productively.

I promise you if you had the experience I've had you would understand what I'm talking about. Especially one friend has gotten me down. I share what I'm doing with him because he's actually in the right industry, just not technical. I've been showing him my technical progress, which may sound delusional, but I'm building something very cool that hasn't been done before, and when generalized has a high potential value. But every time I share I just get negative feedback, not constructive. I don't think he realizes he's doing it, and we're childhood friends. Anyway, I'm convinced this has value so I'm not giving up (I do get good feedback when showing it to potential users), but I would kill for even a "wow, that looks really cool".

Sure, but to find what works you need to take action first. The problem is if you have no support network that encourages you to take action you are more likely not to start or to give up when you face headwinds. That's one reason startups tend to happen in a few hubs. Yes, it's also where VC is, but to get started you need likeminded people who don't reflexively shoot down anything new.
