> Dieter Rams complained that the word “design” was ruined by the fashion industry and marketing. They sell products as “designer products” that aren’t necessarily good representations of good design. He suggested that we be called “Gestalt Engineers” - Gestalt is the German word for "form" or "shape".

Loved this line and the term "gestalt engineer".

That seems to be their secret sauce. It's not NFC as that would not be compatible with existing mag-stripe readers. It has to be some method of emitting magnetic fluctuation.

> A simple schedule for Philips Hue, so you can f.lux your house

You can pair your Philips Hue bulbs with f.lux! This is awesome! This kind of thing is very helpful for people who sleep odd hours or just have trouble going to sleep and waking up. Has anyone tried this or knows how it works?

> In one case, they said, Ulbricht paid $80,000 in bitcoins to have a former website employee tortured and killed after he was arrested. But according to prosecutors, the anonymity of Silk Road backfired on Ulbricht after he asked a purported drug smuggler to carry out the hit.

The smuggler was actually an undercover agent, the government said - the same agent who had arrested the employee.

Are there more details about this previous arrest?

I guess Facebook wants Open Graph (and their other APIs) to eventually be the primary backend for apps. Makes sense.

The post doesn't mention the benchmark submitted to Top500 was with an array of ~1100 CC2 instances. (I think.)

This device looks great! The software looks like it could use some work, though. Does anyone know if the data is exportable?
