In the current LLM cybersecurity climate, I honestly can't say with 100% certainty anymore that something like a VM acts as a completely infallible sandbox environment for the next couple decades.

Your phone alarm isn't adjusting your dosage or treatment plan like ChatGPT was. Your phone alarm isn't recommending you hide symptoms from your physician. It's not giving you medical advice by facilitating your medical treatment, just like how your drinking glass for any pills isn't giving you medical advice.

To be fair, this account is 4 hours old and created 2 hours before the S-1 post.

With the amount of money involved here and the current agentic tooling context, how am I ever to take comments like from accounts like this on topics like this at face value?

Describing Montreal as "sheer chaos" only makes sense in the north American context. Karachi and other such cities are actually chaos.

When I'm visiting developing countries, I'm often in awe of the increased social activity and wondering why we don't have that in the western world anymore. One thing I think about is the cost increase like this.

Baumol's cost disease often comes to mind - in my (might be wrong) application of it - western society simply has had too much productivity and efficiency improvements. You can make more money as a software developer or as an investment banker because those jobs have gotten more efficient and have higher payouts to employers who want the best employees.

There can't be efficiency improvements in efficiency for child care, so the only way to have people want to become child care workers is to pay a competitive salary, so the efficiency increases in the other unrelated fields directly increase the cost of child care.

Developing countries don't have this problem and domestic labor and child care are still cheap.

This is one of the reasons why diverse medical teams and having nurses/doctors/pharmacists etc from other countries is a great idea.

I think you're going to need to elaborate a fair amount on that take... That runs contrary to the general concensus that having freely and easily accessible information is good for people.

Bots don't matter if you aren't connected to accounts you haven't tapped phones with though.

I find it hard to believe that Oneplus is spending engineering and business recourses, upsetting a portion of their own userbase, and creating more e-waste because they want to reduce the global demand for stolen phones. They only have like 3% of the total market, they can't realistically move that needle.

I don't understand what business incentives they would have to make "reduce global demand for stolen phones" a goal they want to invest in.

Phone thieves aren't checking which phone brand I have before they knick my phone. Your scenerio is not improved by making Oneplus phones impossible to use once they're stolen.

It ain't normal to me. If I bought a phone, I should be able to decide that I want to run different software on it.

Let's say OP takes a very different turn with their software that I am comfortable with - say reporting my usage data to a different country. I should be able to say "fuck that upgrade, I'm going to run the software that was on my phone when I originally bought it"

This change blocks that action, and from my understanding if I try to do it, it bricks my phone.
